Does this board trend older?

I know on this board I feel like a kid, really really young compared to everyone else.

But on other boards I feel ancient, like really old.

I mean people here remember being kids in the 50s:eek:

Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Aerosmith are all contemporaries; they all started out playing blues in the early sixties. The Stones started in the fifties. U2 came a full generation later (formed in 1976), and Nirvana a full generation after that. I mean, in 500 years historians will probably say they were all from the same era, but given the sub-80-year span of popular music to date it would be weird to say that now.

What on earth are you talking about? Nirvana formed in London in 1965, and released their first album in '67. I thought everyone knew that.

Does it bother anyone that the board isn’t attracting enough new members to maintain its age distribution? Or do they prefer growing old together? I wonder about pop radio stations, actually - as their listeners age, do they play different songs to keep them, or do they let their listeners leave and the stations look for new listeners?

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but last year I switched on the car radio, assuming it was tuned to Radio 1 (the main BBC “pop” station") and was pleasantly surprised to hear two indie classics from my teenage years in a row: Supergrass and Elastica, IIRC. “Hmm, they’re still playing some decent tunes.”

Then when the DJ came back on I realised I was listening to Radio 2. You know, the oldies station my dad always had on when I was a kid.

I suspect the number of people attracted here by the books is a tiny fraction of those who arrived via Google, bored.com, AOL and the like.

I did find this place by Googling, but I was specifically looking for it. In 1999, knowing the books, and having read my first column in 1983, I suddenly thought “Wait! I’ll bet it’s online by now!” Found it right away.

There’s a saying common among expats in Thailand, and that is: “You’re only as old as the girl at the end of your arm.”

I’ve got a response to that, but it’d have to be TMI.
