Is there big money in purebred Dobermann puppies? Maybe the killer thought he was mistreating them? It’s a weird story, thus far. According to one site, a purebred dog from a reputable breeder can cost up to $3,00. But these pups would be “hot”? There’s no way to tell one pup from another, though, unless he chipped them for identification.
A friend breeds Golden Retrievers. His pups currently go for $5k. When I first met him, circa 1990 they were going for $500, and people thought that was outrageous (but he’d had a waiting list and does today as well).
But a significant part of the value is knowing it came from a reputable breeder.
Something more than a simple profit motive maybe going on here. The article was short on details, mentions of chips but no confirmation the dogs had been chipped but I understand that’s often done by the breeders now. Their value would depend on papers filed by the breeder also. Won’t be easy to cash in on 10 hot dogs in these circumstances. Still, if these dogs could be worth $50 grand in total then people have committed murder for much less than that.
I’d relish the chance to bring the dognapper to justice.
Just don’t try to catch up on them in Chicago.
You will have to ketchup on the details fast, I haven’t mustard enough information to help, and the perpetrators are on the bun.
Dealing with a murderer and dog-thief? Still better than the evil that are AKC-breeders-for-profit.
The AKC has actually improved over time. Our mixed breed dog competes in AKC agility events and is AKC registered as a mixed breed “American Dog”.
Meanwhile, puppy mills are pumping out dogs with various “registration” created just for their use. They provide legitimate looking paperwork that is meaningless.
In my area the Amish run puppy mills. They look at dogs the same way they look at corn, they’re a commodity.
When I first read the title of this thread, I thought the implication was that the missing puppies were suspects in the breeder’s murder.
Better than “Dog breeder found dead, puppies overfed and burping”.
Cute puppies OF DOOM!
Legit, caring dog breeders are around. AKC and otherwise.
The bad ones make everyone look bad.
I don’t think the AKC is bad to the bone(heh). They have problems. Standards of breeds are somewhat weird. They cater to the people wanting the perfect specimen of their breed.
Illegitimate dog breeders are everywhere. Buyer beware.
Dod breeding can be a Shit Zoo.
It is just possible that that was a bad dog breeder and the dude thought he was recusing the dogs.
No motive mentioned, and no information on what happened to the puppies.
