Have you written any doggerel for fun? Post it here.
In August 1977 I was 17, newly arrived in St. Louis, visiting Six Flags. Sat with my sisters under the shade of a tree on a secluded side path and we toked up some Cannabis sativa. Soon my addled brain was flooded with poetic inspiration. On some paper napkins I wrote out the following doggerels…
The silent shrouded horseman rides
Over his hellish realm
Which foundered in the sea of oblivion,
Nobody at the helm.
Deep in the cave of blackest night
The banshee shrieks with pain.
The iridescent monster of awesome might
Has freakified my brain.
Venus let her hair grow long,
Athena went to sleep.
Vulcan lit up his Olympian bong,
For no one wanted to weep.
King Brian Boru looked out over Eire,
And toked on his bong with a smile:
“I know that the black folks got soul, and that’s fair,
But man! Us Irish got style!”
“On First Looking Into Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-Gita” (pace Keats)
“Karma is as karma does!”
Said Krsna to Arjuna.
“Your soul is all you ever was,
So good luck, buona fortuna.”
I know it’s dumb, but that’s the fun of doggerel, it’s got an excuse to be dumb. Got any of your own?
