Dollhouse 12/04

FOX apparently wants to get through its stock of episodes as quickly as possible without pissing off the fans too much, so we’re getting two hours a week throughout December. Tonight, a pair of eps concerning the muckraking Senator introduced earlier in the season, and his plan to expose the L.A. Dollhouse. There was a lot to absorb, and I’m not sure it all made much sense, but as usual there was some excellent acting to be found, mainly centered around Topher. He meets more than his match in eccentricity and genius, in the form of (natch) Summer Glau, who is set up as the head Tech for the DC Dollhouse. Their little mutual admiration society, even as they come to realize they’re bitter enemies, cracked me right up.

Enver Ghokaj once again knocks it out of the park, actingwise. He did a better Topher than the guy who plays Topher himself.

Favorite line of the night: “You just woke up a whole bunch of people, and they all think you’re a bitch!”

i thought dollhouse was cancelled. I never really watched season 2.

Looks like it’s going to be a hell of a show as it skids into the abyss. This episode’s staying on the DVR-it was like seeing a little of the dark side slayer/Wes and Faith show I was always wishing would spin off from Buffy/Angel.
I forget though-did something happen to Sierra?

She remains an active but is being protected by DeWitt after having killed the sleazebag who got her involuntarily placed in the Dollhouse as an apparent mental patient. As far as Rossum is concerned, she has disappeared.

Is she still at the LA Dollhouse? Damn, maybe I just need to worm my way into Hulu and watch it again

I think my crush on Summer Glau just turned into an obsession.

This mind wiping tech really has some broad potential. I think the show would have been much better off if they did not constrain themselves with the Dollhouse. Instead of showing how one corporation uses the tech in the same way every episode, the show could have done a lot more with the technology.

I hope he goes on to superstardom after this as he is an acting god.

I missed it - didn’t realize it was back on. Would have watched just to see Satan from Reaper.

Last night’s episodes are now available at Hulu. Definitely worth watching.

Fox handled the cancellation of Dollhouse poorly. They put it on hiatus during Sweeps & announced that no more shows would be ordered while it was off the air. Many people thought the show was gone for good. But Whedon will be making all 13 episodes & Fox has promised to show them all.

You really need to find and watch an old miniseries called Twin Peaks.

Last night was jaw-dropping, I kept expecting Bennet to become Alpha.

Did they do a dub of Topher’s voice or something? Because Victor sounded exactly like him.

If the earlier episodes this year had been at this level, the should wouldn’t have been canceled. Two of the best episodes of the entire series. Too bad it’s too little too late.

It’s interesting that these episodes were written and filmed before the hiatus/cancellation order.

Mutant Enemy obviously knew the end was nigh. We might even get some real closure with the unfilmed episodes (of which they still have to do three).

Dear Mr. Whedon,

Now that Dollhouse is no more, please create “The New Adventures of Topher and Topher” with special guest star Summer Glau.

Thanks.

This isn’t the first time Enver’s displayed that skill. He did a dead on Reed Diamond when they brought him “back” from being boxed.

So Bennet and Caroline were friends - and they both end up in dollhouses.

I can understand Bennet being mad at Caroline for abandoning her - but she probaby would have lost her arm eve in Caroline stayed.

The geek flirting between Topher and Bennet was great.

Brian

I agree. Hopefully there are some directors/casting directors in the small Dollhouse audience who will snatch him up.

Great episodes tonight. If only things had been this good all along. Loved:

  1. Wes vs Faith… I mean… Senator vs Echo. Let’s hope all future series with either actor get them back together for another brawl.

  2. Senator Doll. Called this, though I didn’t think he’d be just a partial doll, an improved version of his actual self. Also knew the wife wasn’t a doll but didn’t consider that she’d be his handler.

  3. The 2 Tophers. Enver was even better as Topher than as a girly dance slut. I think they gave him extra pasty makeup though.

  4. Topher Terminator! Er… Summer Glau. Great character. Not sure about her whole past connection with Caroline though.

Didn’t quite get what happened at the end though. Did they finally get to the senator, or is he just playing along?

Next week!

Alpha is back!

Now, I understand 2000 to 2008… But who was Dubya’s handler and what was his reponse phrase? I’m thinking something with evildoers in it.

The show’s always hinted at Caroline’s entry into the Dollhouse coming after one of her activist stunts went wrong. It’s possible the short glimpse of Bennett under a piller was the activist stunt that went wrong.

Bennett may have already been a doc, but Caroline was more or less forced into being a doll.
