Domain name broker questions

There’s a domain name I’d like to buy. I checked out some info about the domain/site on godaddy.com, which offers a ‘domain buy service’. Googling led me to sedo.com, a ‘domain brokerage.’ Both charge $60 up front to do an appraisal, contact the current owner, and negotiate and a price if the domain is for sale and facilitate the sale.

Has anyone used either of these services and can give me an opinion? Is there another alternative I should explore?

FYI, alexa.com says this domain name has a traffic rank in the 6,500,000 range, so its not like its getting a lot of action. I’ve also checked alternatives to the name I want but would really like this one; I’m not really interested in .net, .biz, etc.

An Alexa traffic rank in the 6,500,000 range is pretty much the bottom of the barrel. This site likely gets fewer than 10 hits a day, which means it’s probably a personal site. Just contact the guy yourself and see if he’d be willing to sell.

I thought about that - I have NO idea what kind of price to offer though. Its actually a site through another site that has generic advertisements for concerts, shows, etc. Doesn’t seem very active at all.

If you like, send me an email to libreserve AT gmail (dot) com and I’ll give you my opinion. Let me know what the domain is. I’ve bought and sold many domains and have some experience with domain name valuations.
