The politicians aren’t leveraging the crazies’ emotions for their own ends…they’ve created those emotions for their own ends. The “Tea Party” (hardly a grassroots movement) and the Republicans have blatantly lied and cynically insinuated all number of things in order to foment the rage that they are hoping will benefit them at the ballot box. The “perspective” that the bill was “rammed down their throat” or that this was a deal done in the back rooms or any of the other lies that are being spread did not spring organically from reality - they’re “perspectives” that have been sold to people by the right wing. And, if all the rage the conservatives in charge have been stirring ends up in a few lefties getting killed? Oh well, who gives a shit, right? They’re all a bunch of whiners and “victims” anyway.

During the last administration, how many things were “rammed through”, and the Right supported all of it? The Dems either did not, or could not oppose much of it. But that was OK. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and it’s not OK?

Now, maybe, we are getting somewhere. The birthers got going in 2008, which was before Obama was elected, much less the health care bill. While they are upset about the health care bill, they were worked up long before that. why did this start building? The answer is not the health care bill (that came later), and it’s not taxes (most people got a tax cut last year), and it’s not big government (because these people weren’t threatening to shoot people between 2001 and 2008) when, say, the Department of Homeland Security was created. So you tell me: why did this start building, and why does it keep getting bigger?
Nothing was rammed down anyone’s throats, any more so than any other legislation that has ever been passed. It was debated endlessly, by politicians and by the press.
The Democrats are in the majority in both houses, and the GOP as the minority party chose to not participate in an adult fashion in many ways.

Sure they’re frustrated. Tough - that is the way the system works. I’m sure the Democrats were frustrated by many things the Republicans did when they held both houses. But there was no talk of bringing rifles to rallys, and there were not a whole lot of death threats against Republican senators and representatives.

It’s because he passed a health care bill. Do you know who else’s first priority was universal health care? Hitler AND Stalin! After Hitler took power, the CommuNazi Party proposed a health care reform package that was so unsuccessful, they needed to invade Czechoslovakia so they could get enough funds to run the government option. That didn’t work, so he had to invade Poland, too. And after that the bill was still so unpopular he invaded France as a distraction. Then he and Stalin disagreed over whether or not the system should be single payer, so they went to war with each other. In the end, Hitler and Stalin’s health care reforms killed 100 million people. This is what the Tea Partiers are trying to prevent.
