Domino's Pizza

Knock not the Royal Crown. That and a Moon Pie has gotten many a Southern boy through his break.

Seems pretty standard (for a Coke products place) to me. I would never order beverages from a take out or delivery place. The closest one here is next door to a Kroger grocery store. There used to be a Chinese place there, and they would go next door to buy drinks and then mark them up. At least they offered Pepsi products, though.

I think the other Coke product they offered was A&W Rootbeer
I like the Pepsi products better

Pepsi
Mountain Few
Barq’s Root
Orange Fanta

ehh if theres not a bbq chicken pizza on the menu then ill pass … although I’m dying to try that new mess little Caesar’s came out with

Actually the best pizza I ever had was red brick pizza that doesn’t exist anymore around here

See the guy that owned all the little caesars here got screwed by them when caesars declared bankruptcy about 15-20 years ago so he switched to red brick and had them until he had to sell them in a divorce…

But since they came back I haven’t like caesars since they became the 5 dollar carryout kings …Costco makes better pizza but the kids here love it …the papa johns here was great for a while … but my favorite was from “pizza king” the guy that owned it made a 24 inch pizza that was great …then opened his own place but the location was ghetto so it failed …

In my neck of town, RC is the standard pizza drink at the Ma and pop places. It’s common they include a free liter with your order. Even found an article about it.

Most if not all of the Dominos in Hawaii and Thailand are eat-in places in addition to delivery.

There are a gazillion Pizza Huts in Thailand along with a knock-off called The Pizza Company owned by the guy who used to have the Pizza Hut franchise for the country. One thing I noticed was quality varied from branch to branch. Some were consistently good, others consistently bad. You learned which ones to avoid.

A Subway near my house has pizza, but just that Subway (that I know of). I love it.

Anyone remember Shakey’s? I heard about a “South Park” episode where Cartman wanted to make a Shakey’s Pizza out of stem cells. :stuck_out_tongue:

We had a Shakey’s where I grew up in West Texas. Had sort of a Roaring '90s theme, with player pianos and those striped shirts on the staff. It was so-so at best. Shakey’s even appeared in Bangkok in the mid-1990s, with a location in the busy Siam Square right in the middle of the city. Lasted a year or two, then disappeared.

A band was setting up to play at a Shakey’s in Denver in the early 70s.

My mother asked them to play Deep Purple.

What she expected was a smooth tune from 1933.

What she received was early heavy metal.

Remember it? I literally owe my existence to Shakey’s Pizza.

There used to be a chain called Pizza Inn. Those still around?

I ordered Domino’s pizza last week.

Doorbell rang, I took the box from the delivery guy, then chowed down. Not bad!

Shortly thereafter, my daughter told me that wasn’t the Domino’s delivery guy…it was the fertilizer guy delivering dung samples.

Then, the real Domino’s guy rang the bell. I took the box and chowed down. It tasted like crap.

Pizza Inn is still around. There is one about 20 miles south of me in Lancaster, SC. It’s got a decent pizza buffet.

The buffets are what I remember them most for. They weren’t bad at all.

Heh, all sorts of chains have entered Cambodia in recent years, but I remember a Pizza Hut ripoff there called Pizza Hot, complete with the exact same logo. Dunno if those are still around. Didn’t see any on my most recent trip last July.

No pizza is better than Domino’s. As in, I’d rather have nothing, and that’s saying something.

I remember when Steve Martin was doing stand-up back in the 70s he would start playing his banjo and comment “Being with me is like being at Shakey’s”

Pappa John’s, Dominos, Toppers all suck. Pizza Hut is OK but I much prefer Godfather’s and am glad one finally opened near me.

Not much for local around here. Haven’t had Pizza King in years and last I heard it sucks. George’s is pretty good though.

I meant to add that I too am a big fan of Shakey’s. I don’t know what the secret was (and I worked there for a year) but there was something about their pizza that I just don’t find anywhere. The crust was sufficiently crispy but it wasn’t like eating a brittle cracker and the sauce had more of a tomato paste texture than the watery stuff that seems to be the style these days. Another old school chain that had the same kind of thing going on was Round Table. Wish I could figure out what they did differently.

I think the Pizza Inns that are left are mostly kiosk-style food court locations.

Pizza Inn was our go-to eat-in pizza, possibly because it was cheaper than Pizza Hut or Little Caesars, which were really the only alternatives in our suburb on the 1970s.

As a child I really liked Pizza Inn’s atmosphere and decor. It was dim with a brick red color scheme. It felt very exotic and sophisticated.

A few years later, we started going to Godfather’s. But by the late 1980s, their quality had plummeted and became mostly known for their cheap all-you-can-eat lunch buffet.

I’m no pizza snob, but I’ve never been impressed by any chain pizza place. Small pizza places can vary in quality (sometimes over time – one of our favorites went steadily downhill after the original owner died), but when they’re good, they’re better than anything a chain has to offer. (And I’ve never had bad service from any of them).

Papa John’s and Domino’s serve lousy pizza. Pizza Hut is ok, but never aspires to be anything more than mediocre.

It boils down to trying a few small places until you find one you like. If you’re new to an area, you do run the risk of bad pizza, but the odds are that it’ll still be better than a chain.

Chain pizza tries to please everyone, and thus avoid any sort of distinction. A good small place will make pizza that the owner likes and isn’t afraid of turning off customers who want something bland.
