Gopher, I think you just might be the first person on record to be put off by the amount of food talk in the MMP. It’s not a prerequisite for being a Mumper, though (nor is being a knitter, or flirting with Nooner when he’s around, or being strangely fascinated by swampus’ frequent TMIs for that matter)
Just one more day to go before it’s weekend again. YAY!
In other news, my director announced today that she’ll be re-posting my current position in the next couple of weeks as a senior analyst (I’m currently a junior - re-posting is SOP whenever a job changes enough to move up to )… obviously, the position is mine should I choose to re-apply, but I’m not so sure if I actually want to do that.
The thing is, I spend more time being frustrated and/or bored than anything else, and there’s a limited lifespan in configuring user security for a customized platform (as opposed to something a bit more commonplace like SAP or Oracle). I may see if my director is interested in shifting me over to a different senior analyst position within her group instead… I really like her, and this project is really interesting (most of the time, anyways). It’s just the user security stuff that’s driving me mental.
So how do I bring that up without sounding like I’m an ingrate who’s passing up a near-guaranteed promotion? I have ambition… just not in this direction is all.
I was surprised in yesterday’s class (yeah, only had one, except for the unscheduled one which got scheduled anyway): we had to elect our student senators or whatever they’re called. There’s a girl who had sort’a been campaigning, I don’t like her because she’s totally smug; among other things she’d pretty much been assuming she had this bagged. The ballot had a second name, and it’s a guy who - how to put this… I’d definitely rather have him in front of me than at my back, and on my side than against me, and because I consider him a convoluted bastich (but in a good way) I think he’s perfectly suited to politics. Plus I would have voted for Winnie the Pooh if he’d been a candidate against Ms. Purrfect. We’ll find out how the vote went next week, I imagine.
I went and asked the two candidates to stand up after I’d heard three different people asking who one-or-the-other was. We all sort’a know each other by sight but we’re at the stage of being more likely to remember trivia than names. So we’re all democratified now!
Muppet, ehm, basically like you did here? I’m assuming your boss is some sort of techie person as well, IME (first and second hand) often the best way to bring up something like that with someone like that is while you’re getting coffee from the machine. If you need businesspeak, you’re “looking to broaden your skillset by taking on a different subset of responsibilities within the team.”
It rained a lot last night apparently. Plus I hear thunder rumbles off in the distance. It’s a front pushin’ through, bringin’ in a cool snap. It’s supposed to get down to 48 degrees Amurrkin tonight! Guess that means I need to consider long sleeves for tomorrow.
Ok, that’s all I got. Need brekkie, more caffiene and then work purtification.
Yay! It’s Firday! I went out after work last night with a couple of friends, we stopped at a pub near campus and had yummy food and even yummier beer (“Wizard’s Wonder”) along with plenty of gossip. After that, we headed into town for a spot of shopping and then home.
Today it’s busy here, I am herding [del]cats[/del] tutors for this afternoon’s session and trying to persuade tutors to take on projects that they’re not really interested in. Fortunately I am pretty good at poking them with a sharp stick.
Tonight will be grocery shopping followed by Chinese, not necessarily bad because the Dragon Gate is pretty good really. And a weekend of fun and excitement is set to follow as I’m off to visit my doting parent.
OK, why the heck did I wake up at 4AM? Even more, why the heck couldn’t I fall back to sleep?? grrrrrrr I’ve got *Bill Cosby, Himself *on the TV (classic comedy, even if it is almost 30 years old…)
I may go back and try to snooze again. Or not. I don’t know.
I think I’m sleep deprived. whine whine whine And thus endeth my week off. With luck, the tub will come out today and I can get the subfloor in place. And maybe do the sanding I should have done yesterday. And once the shop calls, I’ll get my car and do a quick (yeah, right) grocery shop.
Party tomorrow - my kid sister is celebrating 25 years of tending bar, so I’m making deviled eggs and we’re driving to Balto - well, all of us except **FCD **- he’s concerned about 4 hours in the car and 4 hours standing around making chit-chat and how that’ll affect his back. So he’ll stay home and tend the critters.
Well, it’s after 6 - no way I’m falling back to sleep. Guess my day has begun.
I just got an email from my cousin. We had made plans for the coming week and she was writing to tell me that she was unavailable because something happened with her sister-in-law who was 8 months pregnant with her first child and the baby died. Apparently it happened on Monday but she didn’t actually deliver it until yesterday. I just can’t imagine such an awful thing.
Otherwise, I’m just trying to wake up and motivate myself to tackle the mess that is my kitchen before GilaMonster gets here. Also before she gets here I have to run to the grocery store. I predict there will be donuts for breakfast.
Donuts? Did someone say donuts for breakfast?! Heh. Just had a Krispy Kreme mini cruller, thankyouverymuch. And thank you, CutiePie!
So very happy today is Friday! Hah, BooFae, I was thinking of you last night when I was watching Access Hollywood (heh, yeah, I watch to catch up on the celeb gossip … yeah, that’s right :)). It seems that Brittany Spears was voted -best- celeb mom by folks in the UK. Naturally, they didn’t say -which- folks in the UK. But they did ask their (AH) viewers to pick a choice as to why … and one of the reasons was: The British hang out at pubs and were apparently tipsy when they selected Brittany as best celeb mom. Be darned if that wasn’t where you were last night! Who answers these polls anyway?! Makes you wonder …
And that’s wandering enough for now. Happy FIRDAY all!
You’d think so, but no… my boss isn’t a techie at all. She’s responsible for policy, which is the least techy part of the entire project. (for that matter, I’m not all that much of a techie either… I just spend enough time in IT meetings to fake it).
I like that particular bit of corporate-speak, though. I think I’ll trot that out in my cover letter.
Sending good thoughts to your cousin’s SIL, Pie. That’s just awful.
Herbs, if you’d asked me in the pub last night, I would have told you exactly what I think of Spears’ parenting “skills”! In terms of voters for those polls, if you were to ask a ‘normal’ pub denizen, they’d tell you to check the bottom-feeders supping cheap lager in the local Wetherspoons. Obviously if you’re not familiar with the pub chain or the kind of people you find in there, it won’t mean a lot to you, but to a Brit is speaks volumes!
Break time!! We’ve been to breakfast and to Lowe’s. I got the towel bars and TP holder and shower rod. We also got paint which has been applied to the inside of the aquarium cabinet. Oh, and the bathtub is out. yay.
Once the paint is dry, we’ll do a second coat. I also need to clean the bathroom floor so FCD can put down the luaun (since I agreed to paint for him, he’s going to start the floor for me.) I also need to dig my way to the vanity and get the pieces out to the garage for sanding. I dread that chore - so much crap has been piled on the vanity base…
Still raining. Still cold. And rumor has it winter is supposed to be colder than normal this year. rah
Also still waiting for my garage guys to call about my car. I asked for it early. I guess they forgot. Oh well.
BooFae, you’re right, I do not understand anything about English pubs, chain or otherwise. I’ve gotta stop watching Access Hollywood though, me thinks.
I see FCM is still on her working vacation kick. LiLi, sending good thoughts your way that you will not be up at 3 am tomorrow.
We’re getting so much rain here … I’ve got errands to do, but I don juana do em in the rain! LOL Someone send me some bars of Dr. Bronner’s tea tree oil soap please! I am down to a tiny nub of a bar … wah!
Just started a fire in the family room - it’s doggone chilly in the house, and a roaring fire will do nicely. I’ve got half a dozen logs that have been in here all summer, so I know they’re well dried out. Once it’s going really well, I can bring in some of the damper wood from the pile outside.
**FCD **is planing boards for the cabinet doors. I shredded and knitted a little - I’m thinking I might knit a little more and watch TV while the room warms up. Yay.
Nope. The account was opened with my SIL’s address, so we already have an east coast area code.
Wasn’t worth the effort though. Everything available was peppered with zeros and ones, making it pretty much impossible to try finding any words.
Now I have to be grumpy at Apple as they don’t yet support our phones for use with iSynch. So, we can’t synch our contacts via bluetooth.
Looked out this morning, and the bushes were jiggling around like mad. On closer look, they were loaded with dozens of birds, apparently enjoying an insect buffet.
Soon, we’ll be off to our last-ever weekend of Faire.
Welp, my last pair of office-appropriate cold weather shoes are looking pretty ragged after three winters’ worth of salt and slush, so I went out in search of new ones during my lunch break.
The good news is that I scored a great deal on some Hush Puppy knee-high winter boots (I paid $100, but last season they would have cost me $200+). They’re casual enough to wear with jeans, but dressy enough that I can wear them with a skirt at the office.
The bad news is that I’m still lacking a pair of shoes and/or low boots that I can wear with slacks at the office. I’m half-tempted to try Zappo’s because they have some cute stuff, but buying shoes online is a pain in the ass without having to worry about paying $10 on shipping and $15 on returns. sniff
Dindin tonight shall be chicken noodle soup and some cheesey bread. The soup I took out of the freezerand stuck in the fridge last night. It’s nice to have stuff like that at hand. It’s a little coolish out. Earlier today it rained and rained. Now it’s sunny and coolish. Soup will be nice.
gotti sorry you couldn’t find whatever that is you were lookin’ for in a number. Seems like I recall you wanted to spell out bear right?
MOOOOOOM reading about the remodelin’ has made me tired. I need a nap.
Ok, off to heat up soup and toast up some cheesey bread.
**FCD **is in the doghouse. About 9:45 this morning, Paul called to tell him my car was ready. Round about 2, I commented to my sweetie that it was taking an awfully long time for an oil change, and the lightbulb came on. So much for running my errands today.
But the aquarium standis all painted inside. The first 5 pics in the album have different views.
And our Taz seems to like fire. Again, we’re relieved he doesn’t have thumbs.
One of daughter’s coworkers was confirmed with swine flu today. I’m thinking we should make daughter stay in the shed till we know she’s not contagious.
