Don & Mike (Radio Gods)

The James Garner thread got me thinking about Don & Mike. They called him a once and he was a total asshole to them, but they could be assholes too, so I guess it doesn’t matter. Plus, Mike did a great James Garner voice.

Don & Mike made so many of my afternoon commutes in horrendous DC traffic tolerable.

I was living overseas when Frieda died and the show ended, so I missed much of their last few years on air; I was an occasional on-line listener during the last years of the show.

I used to get pissed off at them sometimes, but I always listened to their show. On days that traffic was light, and I got home quickly, I would listen to them in the house.

I thought they were a unique amongst radio shows, and I certainly miss their humor.

Any former Don & Mike listeners out there?

As with Howard Stern, I liked them better with the emphasis on Jock rather than Shock.

They both have separate podcasts now (Buzz too) and don’t seem to be on very good terms.

I had no TV in college (late 90’s - early 00’s), so they were the most entertaining thing available. I liked them well enough but didn’t love them. They’d go from brilliantly hilarious to tiresome fart noises in minutes. Good lord, the fart noises.

They were more like Radio DemiGods to me.
