I don’t know about deliberate destruction of records.
As I understood it, records were never taken down in the first place, so eager were these assholes to do their evil work of separation, and shipping kids off god knows where. They just didn’t bother.

That is deliberate. Not bothering.

The only way these people could have escaped moral accountability for this is if they had kept careful records that were destroyed in an accident (verifiable as such).

But if they just didn’t bother to keep records, then they were deliberately consigning the children to permanent separation from their parents.

They end up put up for adoption. They’re not good enough to become US citizens along with their parents, but they’re good enough once taken away from those same parents.

This is just one article on the subject. I’ve seen others about migrant kids who got separated, put up for foster care, and their parents have been denied the return of their kid “because that would be disturbing to the child” who’s grown up knowing no other parents than the foster ones: remember, while Trump’s administration has been caging them, separating children from their undesirable parents isn’t exactly a new policy for the US government.

Look, we all agree that the situation is terrible, but let’s assign blame where it belongs, and that isn’t with Donald Trump. Are the migrant parents not at fault for risking their lives to walk hundreds or thousands of miles so their children can eat and not be murdered, and for believing antiquated legends of a United States where they’ll be treated fairly and with compassion? Sure, it’s bad for the traumatized children ripped from their parents’ arms and absorbed into a system they can’t comprehend, run by people they don’t know speaking a language they don’t understand, but once they get a little older and we explain it to them slowly, they’ll agree that the blame lies with their mother and father, whose faces and voices they’ll probably have forgotten anyway. As for the parents, they can always have a half dozen more kids. They were going to anyway, right?
