Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

There’s only room for one wailing baby at a Trump rally.

The above article has the following info:

" In the traditionally Democratic states that Trump has vowed to compete in, the desire to separate from Trump is even more intense. In Illinois – a state that hasn’t been won by a Republican presidential nominee since 1988, but which Trump has said he’ll put in play – ** GOP Rep. Bob Dold has declared that he won’t support or vote for Trump – full stop. ** “Bob’s position on that has never changed, so no, he will not be campaigning with our supporting Donald Trump in any fashion,” said James Slepian, a Dold spokesman."

I’ve noticed exactly the same phenomenon. I’ve got a dear old family member who’s a former Vietnam vet and has had a burning hatred of all things liberal and democrats since coming home in the late 1960s and early 70s – which I can kinda understand in some ways actually. Not saying I agree with it, but I understand at least how his mind goes there.

But here we have the leading “conservative” politician in the country who insults vets in ways that wouldn’t even be remotely tolerated by a democrat, and honestly even a centrist republican like Mitt Romney would have a hard time getting away with it.

But do they blame Trump? Nope. “I blame people like Obama who sent that poor kid to Iraq.”:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: (Khan died in Two Thousand and Fucking Four). Every other die-hard conservative has either said something like this or simply not talked about it and plastered the wall with more shit about Hillary’s emails.

I do agree that if Trump continues, he actually will start losing some fanboys, but he still has time to reverse course. He’s just found ways to slip out of danger time and time again. It was barely over a year ago when he taunted John McCain and actually had more people defending him and attacking McCain. It was about a half year ago when he went deep into the heart of Bush and Lindsay Graham territory and basically said George W Bush made up lies to go into war in Iraq – and promptly ended both of his opponents’ campaigns. It was about a month ago that he questioned the integrity of a Hispanic judge on no other basis than his ethnicity. And as of last week he actually had vaulted to a 5 point lead in national polls. So I would be careful about picking out his campaign’s burial plot just yet.

Now having said that, I would probably agree that this past week has unquestionably been Donald Trump’s worst week. Moreover, to use a flying analogy, with the election date approaching, he’s a lot closer to the ground than he was a few months ago. He can’t afford to keep losing altitude anymore.

“Fat Christie viciously attacked me for wanting to make America safe. Very disloyal. Sad!”

I think the most devastating punch to the jaw delivered by anyone so far – maybe even more punishing than the one landed by the Khan family – was delivered by the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffet. I think having more and more billionaires come out against Trump actually could be lethal to his campaign. They might have left him alone but I think it’s clear that billionaires like Buffet, like Cuban, like Bloomberg really and truly do have little respect for Donald Trump – as a businessman. And that was one of the Donald’s big cards all along. In fact my own brother, God bless him, said started yelling at me saying “We need this country to run like a business!!!” LOL! Wonder how he feels now.

It’s scary how good you are at channeling The Donald. You might want to see a doctor about that.

Just saw something said Trump was refusing to endorse Paul Ryan or John McCain. Saying he’s “not there yet”. That’s negotiation-speak, yes? “Throw in Baltic Avenue and a railroad, its a deal.”

Background, just in case: McCains got a real race on. Nobody is saying he’s El Tostado, but its tighter than before. When it wasn’t all that great. Anyway, Trump tells his Arizona minions to screw with McCain…

I cannot approve, of course. Such low political judo is unseemly even as it may result in another Senate seat going (D). But the central figures are all Republicans, so fuck 'em.

Sarah Palin’s Medal of Honor winning son-in-law goes off on Trump on Twitter.

"Pennsylvania’s capital city said Donald Trump made “an unfortunate mistake” when he said it “looked like a war zone” from the window of his plane.

“Mr. Trump has made an unfortunate mistake in disparaging Pennsylvania’s capital city after a mere glance from the window of his airplane. Harrisburg is renowned as the heart of our commonwealth and a capital of unique beauty and charm,” Joyce Davis, the city’s Director of Communications, said in a statement released Tuesday. “Mr. Trump should know that Harrisburg and its residents are an integral part of the United States, which he is vying to lead"

Trump is throwing Ryan’s words back at him. “I’m not there yet” is how Ryan responded to the press when asked a few weeks ago if he was endorsing Trump.

Ah! No doubt you are right, had forgotten! Has that always been as common a phrase?

Whoo! I originally missed he was the son-in-law, and might have had to face a Palin saying something intelligent.
Good for him.

Ryan should be thanking Trump for not endorsing him.
How far does the Trumptanic have to settle into the North Atlantic before the rest of these Republican rats start jumping off? The Khan controversy was like the boiler exploding.

There’s a lot of time to go yet, but hopefully this week has given Trump a stench of “loser” that will linger long enough to repel significant numbers of undecided voters.

John Harwood, CNBC and New York Times contributor, tweeted the following 1 hour ago:

" longtime ally of Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager: “Manafort not challenging Trump anymore. Mailing it in. Staff suicidal.” "

No big deal, except that Jason Miller, Sr. Communications Director for Trump, replied with the following non-denial denial:

" @JohnJHarwood “…known to be unabashedly liberal and very biased against conservatives.” "

This may be another sign of a fracturing campaign or just someone venting to Harwood, we will see.

Ali Vitali, reporting for NBC News said he asked a Trump campaign official about the Harwood report. Anonymously, the source said it was “all true, way worse than people realize”.

Trump spokeswoman blames Clinton and Obama for Khans’ son’s death. In 2004.

Until we finally put a stop to any and all illegal chronological excursions, we will be facing these problems.

At the time I argued that allowing the Illinois State Senate to dictate Iraqi Rules of Engagement was criminally insane… and I was right.
