I read something (here on SDMB I think) about someone whose friend was going to vote Trump, because they were convinced that Trump was going to give them money to start a business.
Not make conditions better for business. Not improve loans to small business. Not even loan him the money directly. He thought Trump would GIVE him money. This is the thought process we’re dealing with here.
So yes… Showing that Trump is not really that wealthy would completely sink him. We will not see those tax returns - ever.
It is now being reported that the RNC and Donald will have a major come to Jesus meeting on Friday. Probably doomed to failure before it starts, because of course, Donald will assume he plays the role of Jesus.
Everybody laughing, Paul Ryan stands up, continuing to lead the raucous crowd with his patter. Turning around, he unlocks his valise, pulling out a Louisville Slugger, this one signed by Paul Molitor.
With the group still cackling from the good humor in the room, Ryan turns back around, faces Trump, and asks him:
Didn’t they already do the “intervention” about 2 weeks ago? Trump tweeted nothing but “thanks to blah town” for 3 days then started back on his rants again. As they say the definition of stupidity is repeating the same action again and again and expecting a different outcome.
From what they’re saying on MSNBC, the meeting will be with Trump’s senior campaign staff, but not Trump himself (we shall see, in a few hours, if that is indeed the case). If true, it makes it seem even less likely that it’ll make any difference.
I’m amazed how few here are talking about how Trump keeps saying over and over that Obama and Clinton are the “founders” of ISIS. And then on NPR, when I heard an expert on ISIS interviewed to “rebut” this ridiculous charge, his counterargument amounted to “it’s unfair to lay sole blame on Obama and especially on Clinton for the rise of ISIS”. Which made me want to tear my hair out. We’re not talking about Trump saying “the rise of ISIS is their fault”. That would at least be an arguable claim.
Do these people not know what the word “founder”(n.) means? It does not mean “person who is at fault for a group of bad guys forming an organization”. Presumably even that #whinylittlebitch Trump doesn’t think Obama and Clinton gathered together a bunch of Middle Eastern Sunnis and pitched the idea, the name, etc.? (Does he?) I may be a pointy-headed pedant, but this misuse of the word “founder” bothers me more than anything.
If he’s “not slated to attend the meeting,” why do the establishment figures there think it’ll make any difference? Maybe they hope to find common cause with the equally frustrated Trump campaign staffers to steer or force change? But what are the odds that Trump will let that happen if he doesn’t want it to? Is there any chance that he actually does want to?
No, they’re both factually accurate - he is supposed to be the smart one and he is supposed to have a lot of good ideas. He falls woefully short in both regards, but presidential candidates are indeed supposed to be smart and have robust, detailed platforms.
Oh god, I remember that. Betsy and her binder. That was the most painful thing I’ve seen on television. Stewart didn’t even smack her down; he just gave her miles of rope and watched her hang herself repeatedly.
My opinion is that Trump is just not capable of changing even if he sincerely wants to. The outrageous statements usually get him instant applause and mean that the media is talking about him for the next few days. That instant gratification “wow look at all the people talking about me” is worth more to him than the future abstract possibility of being President.
So yeah, this meeting will be futile, Trump’s narcissistic personality disorder is out there! It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until the RNC is dead.
Democrats, of course, aren’t resting on their laurels; the article makes good points about Clinton’s weakness as a candidate and the possibility of future surprises, but I think an active campaign is more important for downticket races because it can keep issues in the public eye.
About the debates:
As an unabashed Democrat and schadenfreude addict, I welcome the debates and hope Trump makes every last one of them.
