Tell us more, O paragon of all that is fresh, new, modern and original…
The Donald does his bit for the “Special Relationship” of the U.S. and Great Britain: Donald Trump to British PM David Cameron: 'I'm not stupid, OK?'
What an asshole this guy David Cameron is. I am sure there are many British people who got angry at his comments.
Probably greatly outnumbered by those who think Americans are batshit crazy for nominating a sociopath.
I was responding to this comment

schoolboys weren’t shooting up schools
[/QUOTE]
So, thanks for acknowledging that the comment was incorrect, and indeed, “bizarre”.
Will you also be willing to walk back the comment that kids are “killing themselves right and left”, since you were presented evidence upthread that suicide rates are down since the 1950s?
I see that you ignored my argument that people who are aghast at the expression of individuality in our society today ought to rekindle this “toughness” and, as you suggest, “react to things they [don’t] like or approve of with a shrug and a realization that life isn’t perfect.” A woman is breastfeeding in public? Grown up, Nancy, and look away if you don’t want to see it. A man wants to marry another man, or change their gender? Put your big boy pants on, and get over yourself, since it has nothing to do with your ability to go about your day. Aren’t those the values you are espousing?
You just finished acknowledging that there was “plenty of crime” before the 1960s counterculture, but now you want to hold that culture responsible for all of the crime that came after?
You also seem to believe that drugs was a problem borne of the 1960s, which I guess is true, if you don’t count alcohol as a drug, or if you don’t count prescriptions for amphetamines as drugs, or if you don’t count beatniks using heroin as a drug, or if you don’t count inhalants as a drug…
I’m not trying to piss on your childhood. As I noted, though, I can say the same thing about my own upbringing in the early 1980s: playing outside until it got dark, riding my bike all over god and creation to see my friends, not a care in the world. And it would be true for me, but it would reflect a very naïve view of the world that existed then.
If you want to say that there were many good things about pre-counterculture America, I won’t disagree with you (I, for one, am certain that the food back then was probably better, if a little less varied, simply because it tended to be fresher and was more likely homemade). But that observation doesn’t lead one to conclude that things were better back then. In the face of evidence that problems of today also existed back then, and in the face of data that people’s quality of life has improved since then, making that argument is, as you said, “bizarre.”
Think for just a second. Cameron calls Trump’s Muslim ban idea “stupid, divisive and wrong” and you think he’s an asshole. Meanwhile, Trump calls Cruz a liar, Bush “a pathetic figure”, O’Malley a clown, Rubio is a dishonest lightweight but Trump is your man of the year? Wtf, man?
On the other hand, as of this morning 535,370 UK citizens have signed a petition supporting the banning of Mr. Trump from traveling to the UK, for what they see as Mr. Trump’s promotion of hate speech. This would seem to show, at the very least, fairly widespread tolerance of Mr. Cameron’s views.
Nah, we did it! Grabbed a hold of the Pat Boone, Ozzie 'n Harriet, Beach Boys culture and fucking murdered it. Pissed on its grave and danced naked in the moonlight. No need to thank us, glad to do it.
And no, the liberals didn’t like us, nobody liked us but us. But you could go to just about any town big enough to have a university, knowing nobody, and within a couple hours meet some nice folks who would make a space for your sleeping bag, feed you and make you welcome. You can’t buy that. You can’t even rent it.
Figured if we were pissing everybody off, we were on the right track, “the monster that shouted love at the heart of the world”. The reasoning there is a mite shaky, but we were too busy taking drugs and screwing our brains out to worry about it. Then the anti-war guys marched by, and we remembered our brother, our cousin, our friend in The Shit.
Party’s over. Stuff to do.
I think it’s performance art.
Oh there are probably SOME who support Trump. Here is a start.
Not so much “perform” as “deform”.
Cameron doesn’t need to comment. It is none of his business. Even I don’t agree with (temporary) Muslim ban comment. But I were the PM of a country, I would refrain from commenting in it and never use such harsh language. It would not be my business.
65 Indian members of parliament had written to Obama in 2013 to not issue visa to Modi, who was at that time, the CM (Indian equivalent of governer) of Indian state of Gujarat. Can you believe that? There are stupid assholes everywhere.
Many such petitions have happened against many popular leaders including Modi as well. Dustbin is worthy place for such petitions.
By this metric, what business is it of yours what either of them does?
I don’t hold the office of PM of UK. I can comment, he can’t.
Plus there are ways of commenting if you must. He chose an unacceptable, harsh way. He could have just said he doesn’t agree with Trump if he was asked at gunpoint.
There is no nice way to say what a buffoon Trump is.
This guy says it better than I could. He’s a small government pro-business conservative too.
You called Cameron “an asshole.”
So, Trump gets to call people names and you get to call people names. But other people don’t get to call Trump’s ideas stupid.
Nice bit of double standard you’ve got there.
217 people, places and things Donald Trump has insulted on Twitter.
Mind you, this is only twitter insults. There is much more material to be mined from his speeches and interviews.
You and I can call names but PM of another country can not. (More so, if the other country is an ally like UK, not an adversary like north Korea)
In fact he should avoid even commenting, being a PM. Thats the main point. Language or tone is secondary. He just proved he is an asshole.
Mr. Cameron has the right to free speech and if calling Mr. Trump out for his bigotry helps to defeat him in November, then we should all thank him.
