Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

Don’t know if this has been brought up yet but this could absolutely be a game-changer. While Obama is out playing golf and Hillary is touring factories and dealing with email interviews, Trump is going to visit flood-ravaged Louisiana, and this time, most of the victims are white suburbanites.

The re-Birth of a Nation in 2016 begins.

As I said in another thread, I wonder if TrumpBart’s gonna do a telethon for victims and have Ted Nugent say something like “Barack Obama doesn’t care about white people!”

Politically, it may be better to visit. In reality, it diverts resources from recovery when a president or candidate visits a disaster area.

It may not be better to visit PRACTICALLY. Politically I am quite sure it’s a good move. Makes him look like he cares. Voters don’t generally notice the details.

Of course it’s a state he’ll win anyway, but it’ll sway a few people elsewhere, I guess.

Most people here are pretty smart when it comes to reading comprehension. It may not be “everyone except you”.

I love how he talks about liberal obstruction and the best examples he can come up with are from almost 30 years ago. “OH NOES, TEH LIBRULZ BLOCKED ONE GUY 30 YEARS AGO BECAUSE HE WAS A RADICAL, THEREFORE THEY’LL BLOCK ANY CONSERVATIVE EVER AGAIN!” Oh, and apparently even though republicans have gotten 12 of the last 16 nominees, most of those were liberals anyways…? Fucking stupid law professor, this one.

Well, remember this is Bush’s guy who said torture was legal. But he’s right about SCOTUS appointments not being a good reason to support a candidate you shouldn’t. It’s a rationalization and that goes for bad Democratic candidates too, even if they don’t rise to the level of badness of a Trump.

Anytime you go, “Yeah, I know, the candidate’s terrible, but think of the Supreme Court!” you’ve already acknowledged that you shouldn’t be voting for that candidate.

The governor of Louisiana specifically asked that Obama wait to visit, so I don’t think this will hurt him or Hillary. In fact, they can easily turn this around on Trump – “why are you taking resources away from rescue and relief for your own visit’s security?”

No, it’s definitely on your end.

Speaking of Bel Edwards, hasn’t his handling of this been quite good?

From my reading (and what I hear from Louisiana friends), yes. It’s my home state but I haven’t been back in many years.

Bel Edwards was on Rachel Maddow last night and he specifically pointed out he was very happy with the federal response to the disaster.

Manafort resigns.

Aaaand Paul Manafort has resigned - http://www.cnbc.com/2016/08/19/trump-senior-aide-manafort-resigns-after-being-pushed-aside.html

Well let us assume for the sake of argument that the readership in question was not this overwhelmingly well-educated crowd, but were a group who read at the U.S. average of 7th to 8th grade level or even below a grade or so below that average.

If one is writing with that crowd as the target audience and the readership is responding that what have written is incomprehensible to them, then the writer has failed. Period. Even if the writer was erudite to a more learned crowd.

john L, no question that the readership here overwhelmingly has a different perspective on Trump than you do. (We have plenty of conservatives but most are of the group that rejects him as well.)

If you want to playfight and insult there is a forum here for that - The Pit. This forum aims for more actual back and forth.

I’ll speak for myself only but I suspect that many others here would agree - engaging only with people who think similarly to me is no fun. I know what I think and why. It is, as you pointed out, a “long time til Nov. 8.” I hope we can together have some engaging differences of opinion before that time is up.

Not at all surprised Manafort quit. They cut his legs out from under him. Can’t wait to hear him dish on the unending chaos that is the Trumptanic’s campaign.

Absolutely agree. I’ve said it before: he just doesn’t have the self-discipline to run for President.

And he was a Republican!

Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism, Ukelele Ike, at least it’s an ethos.

He had plenty of lessons from Katrina as to how not to handle natural disasters in Louisiana.

So this apology tour is not actually going to fool anyone into thinking hes changed and might potentially turn off his supporters who like him because he is “tough”.

So it’s basically been confirmed that the Trump campaign was allowing Russia to dictate their foreign policy regarding Russia, right?

This election is fucking insane.

So much for the “it’s not a shake up!” narrative. I’m sure he’ll be happy to slip back into the shadows. No CNN job for him. I doubt he’s the type to “dish” in public, Elendil’s Heir.

Bring back the “Says Who” Trump Minister of Information Cohen! We need some more laughs!

“So Mr. Cohen, why did Manafort resign?”

      "He did NOT resign!"

“Yes, actually he did”

"Says Who?! He is a loyal member of the team!"

“Ummm Everyone says that. He resigned. He said so himself. HE said that”

Long pause…

         "What was the question again?"

He’s as much fun as Baghdad Bob. Say…you don’t suppose?

What’s the record for most campaign managers in a presidential campaign?
