Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

Trump is the George Steinbrenner of politics.

If Manafort actually resigned, that robbed Trump the opportunity to use his catchphrase

I think it has less to do with that and more to do with the Crimea and Russia issues that have been reported on recently. If he truly took money from the governing party in the Ukraine, then routed the money to US lobbying firms and didn’t disclose it as reported by AP, he is guilty of a felony for acting as an unregistered foreign agent. He also reportedly had a hand in protests against NATO forces by pro-Russian groups. The protests included rocks being thrown at US Marines.

He won’t dish because reports are that Manafort will still be an “outside confidante.” I think they want the heat from the press on Manafort to go down without kicking him to the curb completely.

Seems like Trump’s having trouble with that “we’ll have the best people” thingy.

CUT TO:

PAUL, rushing around house, throwing clothes and toiletries in a bag. Suddenly he stops, pats his pockets in growing horror and realization, and screams:

“Dammit! Where’s my passport?!”

END SCENE

(That’s what I think is happening at the Manafort household right now. )

I think “outside confidante” translates to “we will keep paying you large sums of money, as long as you keep your pie-hole shut.”

No, he’d say “Comrade! Where’s my passport?”

I’m thinking it means “Outside the USA. As in, one of those countries without a pesky extradition agreement with the US.”

Perhaps Julian Assange is looking for a roommate?

Those are my thoughts. London might be too risky, though. Any direct flights to Ecuador?

“Most all countries have extradition treaties with the US. Now, about the only place you can hide from the Feds is Mississippi.”

  • stolen from Dick Gregory, long time ago, and mangled from memory.

I was thinking that myself. Wondering why I haven’t read some newspaper article or opinion piece on how poorly he’s shown himself to be as a picker of good people.

Only conclusion I could come to is that it’s too easy.

Trump supporter stabs interracial couple for kissing.

This is the kind of person Trump was talking to when he said that he wants "election observers". This guy would be just the ticket for Trump’s team.

To me, one of the many striking things about Trump’s speaking style is frequent use of “unfair” and “not fair”. Anyone who has spent much time around children is probably familiar with this feature of Trump’s rhetoric. When a child or Trump says something is unfair, it simply means that something about reality is not just the way they want it to be at that moment.

My favorite instance of this so far is in an article on Politico quoting Trump on a Hannity show. He is talking about Clinton’s health and stamina.

I guess she takes a lot of weekends off. She takes a lot of time off. And you know, that’s frankly — frankly, it’s really not fair.

So it is unfair that she is not campaigning as hard as he is?

Story here.

My conclusion is that poor, overworked WaPo, NYT, and Politico reporters just have too much to cover.

I really do wonder. It is not a job that usually has too much turnover. McCain switched from Rick Davis to Steve Schmidt in 2008 (although even then Davis retained the title). Ed Rollins quit as co-manager for Perot, with interesting similarities:

Do any of our political wonks remember other campaigns that got into the general election that have switched horses, let alone more than once?

State polls:

Fox news poll in Georgia is showing a tie: Trump 43, Clinton 43, Johnson 11 (In 2012, Romney carried Georgia 53 - 45, an 8 point spread)

Suffolk University poll in Nevada shows Clinton up by 2: Clinton 44, Trump 42, Johnson 5 (In 2012, Obama carried Nevada 52 - 46)

You know, that is actually a weakness. Our own Dutch Trumpian political party, the PVV, is the third largest party in the Netherlands. We have about ten serious political parties. Of these, the PVV attracts the worst people.

That is an objective truth: the percentage of PVV party members convicted of crimes and/or misdemeanorsis over 30 percent, while it is near zero % in other parties.

Their crimes are more serious, too. Minor to major financial fraud. Violence..

My best guess is that joining such a non-respectable organisation is done only by people who don’t have much to lose with such a job on their resume. Who would not get such a position elsewhere because they wouldn’t pass the vetting test.

The previous Dutch populist parties fractured withing the year after the election, due to fighting like rabid dogs amongst themselves. The current party, PVV, only manages to escape that fate because it is not officially a party, but it is a one-man-organisation headed by Wilders, that employs staff. He IS the party and he has no organization to answer to. He learnt his lesson well. Angry loser people will still be angry loser people when elected members of parliament.

Isn’t that what they’re doing with Lewandowski?

Manafort’s a professional fixer and bagman. He’s not going to dish because that would ruin his professional reputation. If you’re a huge criminal scumbag, you aren’t going to trust a squealer.

Actually the line is, " где находится мой паспорт?"

And his wife’s like “под кучу денег, Путин дал вам продать американские!”

And he goes “какие кучу денег? один двадцать миллионов для продажи ядерных секретов, или за пятьдесят миллионов раздавать НАТО военные планы?”

Ha ha ha! It’s a stitch.

The shut up part doesn’t seem to be working.
