Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

I have it at 100% and I’m 12 - 0 since 1968.

'Course you have low unemployment, costs $1000/mo to rent a reliable heating grate to sleep on!

In a few days we will see clearer evidence of the effects of Trump’s inability to control himself: the reporting is that the only reason that speech was so “strong” (as Trump fans would say) is that Donny was butt-hurt over Pena Nieto’s Tweet about not paying for The Wall:

Trump cannot refrain from lashing out. Any provocation sends him into a tizzy. Self-control is completely beyond his abilities.

People who identify as Hispanic, likely middle class, and have been in America for generations so have little cultural or familial connections to Mexico or Latin America. They don’t much care for the wetbacks and ignore the blatant racism baked into Trump’s attacks on illegal immigrants.

I’d also say any that are hardcore conservative, Christians (fundie/non-Catholics) and consider themselves fully assimilated so disassociate themselves from fellow latinos who act/speak/think differently. This would include my mother and sister. We were all born in Ecuador, but I live in San Francisco and they live in Alabama so you can guess which way each of us leans.

And they’ll all be small businesses to boot!

The thing is, Hispanics are a natural constituency for a right wing party. They’re highly religious, tend to be catholic and socially conservative, believe in the value of hard work & personal responsibility as a path to success and believe in strong family values. Republicans have known since GWB that Hispanics were the key to the future survival of the Republican party but the crazy, nativist strain of conservatism that’s taken over the party has no room for courting anyone non-white.

The 19% are the people who are holding their nose and voting their values despite how hostile the party is to their interests.

If you look at Asian Americans, they went from 75% Republican in 1992 to 25% Republican in 2012. The shift happened too fast to be explained by mere demographic changes and shows just how drastically the party has shifted in the last 20 years.

There is a version of a right wing party that could get 70% of the Asian vote and 70% of the Hispanic vote and 60% of the Black vote and would become an increasingly unstoppable force. It’s the version that the “best minds” in the post 2012 defeat were angling for the party to become but got blown up this cycle because a bitter core of white voters refuse to share their toys.

This is a commonly expressed theory, but I consider it a pipe dream, almost an urban legend. Leave aside immigration, racism, all of that, and mosf Hispanics just don’t fit on the right, for a more fundamental reason which can’t be smoothed over:

That’s right. They tend to be more populist than liberal or conservative though. That’s the kind of leaders they liked back home too.

Yeah that party exists. It’s called “The Democrats”. Left and Right wing really don’t mean much anymore. Clinton seems to support the TPP (right wing corporate) while Trump is against it. The Democrat candidate is in the pockets of Wall street while Trump rails against them. Trump did a deal with Pence to try and bring the far right onboard but he’s not really a conservative, and Clinton would have moved even further to the right if it wasn’t for Sanders. She almost certainly will move more to the centre when she wins.

Trump surrogate admits falsifying biographical claims

It just keeps getting better and better.

Trump’s Mexico trip was inexplicable. He had to know, or suspect, that the Mexican president was going to take issue with The Wall and probably contradict him no matter what he said. If Trump wanted to polish his foreign-policy credentials, why not go to some country that he hasn’t had a beef with - Andorra, maybe?

Heh. I laughed.

I guess it depends on your definitions. In my book, a “larger government that provides more services” is central to the liberal/left project.

Anderson Cooper fact checks Kellyanne Conway mid-interview.

Ann Coulter: Trump was doing a standard retard.

And this surprises you why???
Most of what Trump says on a daily bases are lies or extreme embellishments. The sad part is that everyone is so used to his constant lies that they hardly even check the facts any more.

Why on earth does any reputable publisher handle her books?

Money. That shit sells like hotcakes.

Sure, but Random House used to care about their standing in the industry (not just their bottom line). Shame is dead, apparently.

Its not really a reliable market. Remember when Sarah Palin issued her second volume of her wit and wisdom? Straight to the remainder table. Or when Newt Gangrene’s efforts as a writer of science fiction were re-issued? I actually read some of 1945, its got sex scenes. (Don’t ask. Really, don’t.)
