Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

Arpaio still a birther? True but:

Trump himself is still a birther. He just changed his tune for political expediency.

Trump: Search your feelings; you know it to be true!

Rational people: NOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOO!!!

Drew Magary on GQ.com has a message for Trump supporters. To be clear, I’m not directing this at any other poster. (He uses a fair amount of “fuck you” in his column, and I’d rather not get a warning)

Sonofabitch-Do we actually know his real position on anything?? Remember when he gave his “definitive” answer that Obama was born in the U.S.? Well, it turns out that he said that just to change the subject, and not because he has changed his mind.

and

Classic narcissism: “I’m never wrong about anything, but I’ll say what I need to please people and get whatever the hell I want.” Pretty frightening to think we’re this close to electing a bona fide sociopath.

Nice. So that’s how he gets off the hook for that $5M donation pledge. I must admit, I’m a little surprised he’s halfway sorta walking back his renunciation of the birtherism publicly. Less surprised that he sorta halfway renounced it in the first place though now that I think about it.

You mean they let him ramble off that shit, and afterward didn’t even insist that he state definitively whether he believes Obama was born in the US or not?

That guy said everything I’ve been “feeling,” – and with an appropriate amount of passion and profanity.

I think he’s decided that he’s not getting “the blacks” anyway and that anyone who would vote for him doesn’t care, so why bother- better to energize his base.

I’ve shared the article with lo my three or four actual human Twitter followers.

This is the money shot for me: “How are you gonna change the system if you elect some corrupt idiot who has no clue how to DO IT, huh? Can’t you see this? Haven’t you heard this asshole talk? THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?”

True, he probably wasn’t going to get a lot of African American votes anyway, but the longer he continues this dithering on his birtherism, the noisier the outrage gets. My question is, is this really what he wants, and if so what does he expect to get out of it? Is he angling for white voters in Minnesota, Wisconsin, rural Michigan, and New Hampshire? Does he think that this could turn into a culture war and that he could gain voters in these states that might compensate for losing Florida? Or is this just Trump being Trump, thinking about the present and trying to lie his way out of an explanation ex post facto?

I could be wrong – I’ve been wrong about Trump a lot over the past year. But I don’t see how this does him any good at all and he is inflaming the African American voting bloc. I suspect, too, that it might also inflame the Hispanic vote as well, and just make them so enraged that they forget that they’re voting for Hillary, even though some may not necessarily like that idea. The worst kinds of controversies are the ones that don’t die. Trump’s birtherism ain’t dying; it’s going to turn into a monster that devours his campaign if he’s not careful.

You’re looking for logic and for Trump to make sense. Alas, that cupboard is bare.

The association of refugees and terrorism is sufficiently important that we should probably not continue hijacking the Trump elections thread with that discussion.

Please take that discussion to its own new thread, probably in GD.

Do not continue that discussion, here.

It’s spelled ex post fiasco.

You’re welcome.

I like it, and thanks, but we probably really ought to wait until Nov. 9 to use that phrase in this thread. Don’t want to jinx it, y’know.

Omarosa, who was on the first season of The Apprentice and is considered one of the most hated people in the history of reality tv, and a Trump spokesperson:

every critic, every detractor will have to bow down to President Trump.”

Oh jeez, Bartholomew Cubbins is REALLY going to be hating this.

Also worse than that stupid woman who said racism only started with Obama: Mike Pence, Republican Vice Presidential Nominee, who thinks that talking about racism is “the rhetoric of division”.

Because there wouldn’t be a problem if everyone would just sweep it all under the rug.

Because, in Mike Pence’s world, there’s no such thing as racism, so the actual problem is that cops are being unfairly accused of being racist. Which can’t be true, because there is no racism. Therefore, the baseless accusations just cause racial ill-feeling. Of course, racism is bad and if any actual racism occurs, Mike Pence would be the first to condemn it. But the cops all around the country shooting unarmed black guys? That can’t be racist because the cops are “the best of us”. Therefore, there is no racism except for the racism of the people accusing the cops of being racist. And Obama, of course. Obama is the racist in chief. Vote for me! And Donald! Yeah, ok, vote for Donald! (and me!)

The painting has been found.

So what else is new?

Yeah, that pretty much describes every single person voting for Trump.
