Donald Trump's 2016 General Election Campaign

Well, he was a good quarterback…

I literally had no idea if this was truth or satire, before checking (it’s true).

Honestly, I think “I love Hispanics” gestures might lose him more votes than it gains.

Never heard of her. I posed the question out of earnest curiosity: I have sometimes seen some Dopers defend Trump on this or that point, or try to call bullshit on some particular attack on him, but I cannot recall ever seeing a Doper go so far as to express the intention of voting for him in November. And, since the November lineup is now all but settled as Trump v. Clinton , this is the time to ask.

That might be the funniest political ad I’ve ever seen.

He’s obviously trolling, and I’m increasingly buying the idea that his campaign advisors come from 4chan.

He could win any swing state in which Hillary Clinton has high negatives. In order to do this, he would need to make some serious inroads with the labor union vote, but labor unions, which are a staple and almost a given for democrats, might be a hidden vulnerability for Clinton.

Trump’s most immediate problem is that he has yet to unify the republican party, and he will have a hell of a time doing that. He’ll need to scramble for independents and some waffling democrats. Fortunately for Donald, there could be a lot of those up for grabs.

Brain Glutton:

She’s a New Yorker film critic who was infamously paraphrase-quoted as saying that no one she knew voted for Nixon in 1972.

Both room for improvement plus personality. He is rich, successful, family oriented and can be kind of charming when he wants to be ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNJ_0Wyoxok ).

But despite being a Trump supporter, I have to concede that its very hard to dislike Hillary as a person despite disagreeing with her policies.

Shows that he likes them alright…

Well-fried.

Nice. There’s so many so you can’t blame any of them. Pointing to your Senate voting record is “weak”. Ok

Women…sense his power…and they seek the life essence.

Seems to me that Labour Unions would LOVE his message about bringing back jobs to the US through protectionist trade tariffs. Thats the kind of stuff they love to hear. He can attack Clinton as a puppet of corporate interests that have been outsourcing their jobs for years, its a valid line of attack and Clinton doesn’t have much of a defense since she really is a corporate puppet.

Yeah, I got it. Maybe it’s a New York thing.

A lot of hopeful thinking in this thread… Someone mentioned Florida before and how significant the non Cuban Hispanic vote is, as a (non Cuban) Florida Latino voter myself I would say we are the vast vast majority of the Hispanic vote here - heck even among the Cuban community there’s a large number of democrats, especially among the younger Cuban Americans.

I am very annoyed (and embarrassed) that someone so discussing, polarizing and clueless could ever get this close to the presidency here- politicians like him is why many of us left Latin America for - the demagoguery, the slutty Barbie doll wife, the loud mouth violent supporters … I know America as a whole (many not a lot of “angry white males”) is so much better than this POS

Get out of my head!

Well, no… but they’re pretty sure about it.

I haff a plen…

Trump has eliminated the primary competition. I assume he’ll start focusing on Hillary. It’ll be interesting to see how much he shifts tactics.

He’s got voters attention. But now it’s time to clearly layout his plan and vision for the Presidency. How well he does that is crucial for a win this Nov. I have no idea what he’s going to present to the public but it better be more than bombastic behavior and insults. That’s not going to work in the actual election.

His vision for the Presidency can be summed up in two words: President Trump.

That’s it.

Here’s a different analysis of Trump from Salon:

If it’s too early to be confident Hillary will win because of polls today, it’s too early to be sure that Trump will win. Simple as that. At least the former has hard numbers (that will most likely change — I daresay probably narrow) to it.

Of course. August will be too early, too. Anyone with a major-party nomination in hand then (in any year) has a shot.
