Yeah. Adams works hard to sell his “Trump is a mastermind” theory, but falls short of success. (To offer just one example of the weakness of Adams’ theory: the *Spy Magazine *“linguistic kill shot” against Trump, “short-fingered vulgarian,” has had far more impact and traction than any “LKS” ever invented by Trump.)
Adams has a remarkable hostility towards women, and Trump, for all his alleged persuasion skills, is hated by women. Adams can’t perceive that. He seems to be unaware Trump is behind in the polls, but that’s because Adams doesn’t see women as being part of the Master Persuader’s (his term) electorate.
Adams really doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He truly believes in hypnosis and NLP and is convinced Trump is the greatest ever. Adams WAS right that Trump would win the nomination… but as Adams himself will say in other contexts, if you predict enough things you will get one right and no one remembers the wrong ones. Peter Schiff is still riding on his famed prediction of the 2008 economic crisis. Since then he’s been no more prescient than a monkey with a dartboard, but his fans remember when he got it right. Scott Adams is the Peter Schiff of the 2016 election. Blind squirrel found his nut.
He’s actually god-awful as a cartoonist, in the sense of being able to draw cartoons. He’s a gifted writer and humorist who can draw just well enough to get his ideas across in the cartoon form, but he’s actually a extremely terrible cartoonist.
“Short fingered vulgarian” has had some impact among members of the chattering classes, and their fellow travellers (eg, SDMB). The impact among working class white folks who will flood polling places this November? Little or none.
What has had an impact is “crooked Hilary”. What had has an impact is the call for a ban on Muslims. Sure it’s retarded but it makes Trump look prescient after Orlando, and it seems reasonable to the unread and untravelled.
There is really just one question: will Trump’s LKS’s increase pro Trump turnout among working class whitefolks in OH, PA, VA, NC, and FL? Absolutely.
Now, I’m not sure how he’ll turn around his support with white women. He’ll figure something out. Maybe that’s the question Adams will answer next.
Again, as pointed many times, it has an impact among Republicans; but we should not forget that we are out of the Republican sandbox. In the park at large Trump and his followers are frustrated that Orlando and “crooked Hillary” has not had the traction that they expected.
2016 Florida President - Clinton 47%, Trump 39% (Quinnipiac University 6/8-6/19)
Again, correct on the Republican side, much to their shame, but again since we are talking about the whole electorate the xenophobia of Trump is increasing also the will of the whole electorate to dismiss him, like in Florida.
As I pointed before Adams misses a lot of inconvenient facts about why Trump is not as he is picturing him, his big blind spot is regarding the matching polls vs Clinton (that were worse for Trump when he started and got into a double digit difference at the Time Trump began to capture the Republican nomination, when Trump was making his more assholish moves). Those matching polls really demonstrated that the more Trump sounded like a “genius” to Adams and the Republicans, The more Trump sounded like an idiot to most of the whole electorate.
In any case, does everyone missed that Adams in the end of the last cited article admits that he is voting for Hillary? It seems that even him realizes that Trump is not good presidential material, only that he is a genius, of something, but not good enough to be president.
I did read a bit more and the main reason Adams is voting for Hillary is mostly for selfish reasons. I still see it as Adams knowing that there are many other reasons why Trump will not be good for America. But just like a lot of the bullshitters in the right wing media they can not tell all of it to their readers and viewers. The show must go on.
That’s a persuasion trick. A variation on the backhanded compliment. He says he supports Hilary because Democratic voters in the SF Bay area pose a threat to his personal safety. Implication: Democrats are violent, irrational, uncivilized.
Now it’s a fairly obvious trick, that Adams is pulling for the sake of LOLZ, because he thinks progressives aren’t playing fair when they compare Trump to Hitler.
Of course there might be that, but for me it is important to make the right wing peanut gallery to notice that even Adams, as much as he paints Trump as a “genius”, thinks that Trump should not be president.
I have to assume that Adams is intelligent enough to know how terrible Trump will for be for the economy and that the tax cuts Trump proposes will make an even larger huuuge hole to the deficit.
In the end I do think that most of the people are not being persuaded by that trick of Adams because is not the purpose there to help Trump win? Nah, I see his ultimate support for Hillary as the lesson that all right wingers should note. Much to their chagrin.
