Wait … Der Bungle has a star on the Walk of Fame?
So did Trump pay for (and bribe the appropriate decision makers) himself?
Getting a star isn’t all that difficult, as I understand it. If you are on or in any sort of movie/ tv show/band with any sort of popularity, Those In Charge will allow you to purchase a star. Last I heard it was like $50,000 plus a yearly maintenance fee. I could be completely mistaken as I heard all this from various industry types of questionable authority.
You have to be “nominated” but that almost always means your agency sending a nomination to the Walk of Fame people. Then if they approve your nomination, you have to agree to personally attend the ceremony (unless you’re dead) and pay $30,000 for the tile to be made (but usually your agency or studio foots the bill.)
There are requirements for who is allowed to have a star; DJT has been on TV forever, though, and it’s exactly the kind of self-promotion he covets. IIRC they approve about 10% of the nominations they get each year.
No, he just had to rig the whole thing.
I just find it weird how much Reddit seems to be freaking out over it.
That’s ok, the stars people will approve Trump replacing it with one that takes up four squares. They’ll be begging him to come help them out of the jam they’re in with how bad this looks for them. They’ll call him up and say “Mr. Trump, we’d like to make it up to you by presenting you the biggest star of them all. Yuuge! No one else will ever have anything it’s size!”
That raises an interesting question. Who is responsible for maintaining and repairing The Walk of Fame? I’d assume vandals have damaged other stars.
Trump’s star looks beyond repair. They need to wait a few weeks to replace it. Let the election craziness die down.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that’s a TERRIBLE way to get a star out of concrete? If that’s what he wanted to do (and clearly he went and got himself a maintenance uniform and all that), he should have gotten a concrete chisel and a hammer, not a pickaxe.
EDIT: and I guess a pry bar for levering the star out from the ground after you loosen it
It’s 300 pounds. I doubt he was going far.
Because this is not an isolated incident. This is not some lone nutter with a grudge, this is the “There is no such thing as a bad tactic, only bad targets” mindset inspiring more of the same.
Trump is a shitty candidate who is unfit to be President, but he is not the existential threat the loony left pretends he is, and his presidential run does not justify all the shitty stuff they are doing to try to stop him, up to and including attempted murder.
Attempted murder?
Personally I think this is an act of shitty petty vandalism for the purpose of self-promotion. Trash Trump’s campaign, not his star.
Michael Sandford, in June.
Michael Sandford is a “lone nutter with a grudge”. He’s been treated for psychiatric problems since his early teens.
He’s not remotely connected to the “loony left”, he’s not part of a grand persecution plan - hell, he’s not even American. Trying to connect that particular dot is a significant stretch.
Sanford is a mentally ill British kid who couldn’t carry out the most basic of plans. He isn’t an American Democrat or leftist by any stretch of the imagination.
So unless you’re into bizarro "The Bilderburgers plus the Rothschilds orchestrated this in connection with HILLARY!!"conspiracy theory randomizers, Grumman, you should rethink that talking point.
Besides, as mentioned before, for living, active figures the “stars” are really paid promotional displays. Which is why his was still there to begin with, I guess. Were it the decision of some controlling authority it would have been rational to either remove or protect at least until Nov. 9, both to avoid appearance of endorsement and out of a higher than usual risk of vandalism.
This is just a more expensive and labor-intensive version of the asshattery involved in stealing or defacing lawn signs.
Who exactly was hurt by this? You know this kind of thing has got to drive that orange buffoon’s blood pressure through the roof. Not unlike the images of people giving him the selfie middle finger salute in front of various Trump properties.
Fuck him and his star.
Trump opponents. It makes us look like petulant shits and justifies the negative views Trump supporters have of us. Same goes for people who vandalize other people’s yard signs.
It’s so easy to hold the moral high ground this cycle that resorting to such practices is positively stupid.
It kills me that some people are so wrapped up in themselves that they think taking a pickaxe to a Hollywood star is fighting the good fight or starting the national conversation or something
