I haz Blurf. I didn’t do the horrible shift last night, I wound up getting a good long shift at the footie, which pretty well made up for it money wise whike Stoll finishing at a sane hour. However, I didn’t get a lot of sleep, 'cos the universe decided I was going to be kept awake til stoopid o’clock in the morning by a house party dammit, and my neighbours finally turned the music off at about 7 this morning. Aka 2 hours ago.
It wasn’t so loud I felt the need to get out of bed and go ask 'em to turn it down, and I did get a bit of sleep, but my bedroom window overlooks their garden, so it was still enough to wake me up every hour or so. I’m currently fighting the temptation to turn my music system up to full power and point it back at them now they probably just got to sleep. Better not though, the other house residents, not to mention the rest of the street, would probably object.
Anyway, I’m off to the cider makin’ session (alcoholic, at least eventually, as that’s the only thing we call cider over 'ere) at the beekeeping group. I haven’t got any apples to bring, but I think that’s OK and we’re using the ones from their orchard. Should be good! Party at mine in six months!
The overnight low was supposed to be 41°. It’s currently 36°. I’m so glad I closed the windows last night - except one in our bedroom which is open just a wee bit. **FCD **got up and tended to the critters, and we foolishly thought Higgs would curl up next to us and go to sleep so we could snooze a bit longer. It is to laugh!! So I let him have the bed and I’m having a PB&J to start my day.
We shall see if the cold affects the number of crabbers venturing forth. I know already which boat I intend to look for, assuming there’s no one to catch otherwise.
This afternoon is the HOG chapter’s picnic down at the fairgrounds. I’m hoping it warms up a bit, or we’ll all be hovering over the grills as we eat. Other than that, no plans for the day.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 72 for the day. Right now windows are closed but I believe I shall raise them before headin’ out for deheathenization this mornin’.
Speakin’ of deheathenization, today is brunch Sunday. I made a pasta sallit with grilled chikin, peas 'n carrots, ‘shrooms, green onion, pasta (duh!) and ranch dressin’. I sorta made it up as I went along, but it tastes great. OYKW was the taste tester and he pronounced it good.
Ok, that’s all I got. I need more caffiene and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
It’s cold here this morning. I haven’t turned on the heat yet but it got down to 37○ last night. I think I’ll do today’s dinner in the oven for the heat value.
I have declared it Entirely Too Cold outside right now. In a few months, I’ll be revising that evaluation but for now it’s Entirely Too Cold because the bugs are coming in. There was a Vile Varsp on my curtain. It met the spatula and was buried unceremoniously at sea.
I should have closed my window last night and I didn’t. BRRRRRRRR!!!
Sah-dog kept me up half the night anyway, scratching until he was yelping and crying. Every year around this time he gets the itchies. I hope it stops soon, two benadryl and he was snoring away but now he’s afraid to go off the deck again.
I wish I knew what he is allergic to.
Nuts when I lived in the city the people across the street were fond of partying throughout the night. One Saturday after they kept me up all night I figured I may as well get up and mow the lawn. They were hanging out the window yelling all kinds of things - the only word I could make out was BITCH!
I took my time mowing the lawn that morning.
I finally got the dog outside. I had to walk halfway down the steps and sit down and encourage him. Now he is snoring away again.
At least he moved his bed back across the room. Last night he pulled it right up next to me so when I tried to get out of bed I almost stepped on him.
Cool hat Spaz
Not much on the agenda today except irk. I should do some laundry but I really don’t have enough to make a full load. I need to wash my one pair of okay pants but I’ll just wear sweats to the doctor tomorrow. It’ll be cool enough in the morning.
I don’t know what is up with the male half of the HFH, he was just here and kept walking back and forth across the yard. I think maybe he was inspecting the work my nieces husband did with the attic? I don’t know, he never showed that much interest when he lived here, his lazy ass never did anything. So why the interest now? He showed up the day the guys were supposed to put up the carport too. While he was here you’d think he could have fed the bird and taken some more shit out of here. Maybe I want to start using the living room as my own personal warehouse for a while.
Heh, I hope you whistled while you worked as well Sari. Unfortunately, all of my housemates were also up/out late (though being perfectly acceptably quiet) so I didn’t want to wake them, and besides, we don’t actually have a lawn…
Got some lovely fresh pressed apple juice- both a gallon demijohn full for booze makin’ and a 2l bottle for drinkin’ fresh. Mmmmmmm.
I might have to see if I can get some more demijohns- all mine are now full. There’s a bunch of neglected apple trees in the parks round here, and the guy with the press is doing several more sessions over this month, so it’s really tempting to start off some more. I’m in the heart of British cider country, one must try to blend in, you know
Howdy Y’all! Today I have deheatnated, had brunch at the church house, and am now simmerin’ pear realish on the stove. The grindin’ of pears and choppin’ of peppers 'n onions was easy-peasy thanks to the grind/chop attachments on the Kitchenaid[sup]TM[/sup] mixer. It will be done soon. Whilst it cools I shall wash and sterilize half pint jars. After it sets for two or three days (IMO a good relish needs to do that to let all the flavors combine) 'twill be nummy pear relish. It was a hit last year. I gave away several jars (I got the jars back, yay!) and had a bunch at da cave. I recently opened the last of that batch, so new batch of pear relish. YAY!!!
I saw a man in a kilt today. For real. He’s the son of a church member and comes to church with her from time to time. He always wears a kilt. I have no idea why. Some things are best left unknown.
Back from the Harley picnic - stuffded and tahred. It was fun, but the games dragged on too long - we left before the last few were done. The weather was gorgeous - sunny and a little breeze and warm enough to be in a t-shirt without a jacket. All that fresh air and sunshine done wore me out!
Feeling kind of sad and pensive. A radio show host that I like wrote a very moving tribute to his father. (Facebook link, don’t know if it’ll work.) So that’s what’s been on my mind much of the day.
Pear relish has been jarred and is now bathin’. When one cans, one must give the finished product a bath to ensure the jars seal. Some of you may already know that. Some others of you will have had some ignernce fought. It’s all win-win!
I went to the Farmer’s Market and got a bag full of three types of apples I’ve never had before: Cameo, Candycrisp, and I forgot the name of the third. It starts with Mu. I’m eating a Cameo and it’s very good.
We indulged in a little retail therapy last night. Hubby got a new flat screen TV/computer monitor that is stupid huge. Who needs a 40 inch screen on their desk to play computer games? My hubby; that’s who.
We went there with buying only that particular item in mind, but we came home with a new entertainment center to house our TV and all the components. It’s a nice wooden one with shelves that have doors on the front, and two drawers which are doing a stellar job of housing all of our Blu-ray discs and movie CDs, along with an open shelf on the bottom that runs the length of the entertainment center. It took me until 12:30 last night to disconnect all the systems, move them off the old stupid glass shelved open unit, move the new piece of furniture into place (with hubby’s help—that sucker is HEAVY), and reconnect all the components. I didn’t get the external home audio system working, so gave up on that, and switched the sound to come from the TV.
It doesn’t matter that I didn’t get the old home theater audio system working, we bit the bullet and ordered a new wireless Bose system this morning. We were going to buy that last night too, but they didn’t have that one in stock.
I am pleased; no more stupid wires all over the place and no more speakers spread all about. The new system has a 37 inch sound bar and subwoofer. It sounds awesome. Frankly, I was content with just having the sound come from the TV, but hubby likes this kind of stuff. It should be here in the next couple of days.
This morning I spent hours breaking down all the styrofoam. I filled up three garbage bags with itsy-bitsy pieces of styrofoam. They packed that new system well. I have vacuumed and dusted out in the great room, and was planning on steam cleaning the nasty carpet too, but it’s getting close to dinner and I don’t want to be in the middle of steam cleaning and trying to cook too.
With that in mind, I think I may just go ahead and start dinner now. We’ll be like old people and have an early Sunday dinner. I’m making chicken cordon bleu, and cheese tortellini with alfredo sauce. Yep, it’s artery clogging, but considering that all I ate yesterday was a piece of Ivar’s fish around noon, and then a BLT around 9:00 last night, it shouldn’t harm me too much.
