myrnajean, why not talk to the breeder that you got your pup from? He or she should be able to let you know whether your particular dog is worth breeding, and hopefully help you determine if you’re up for the experience.
I usually try digging a hole under the fence instead.
Thanks guys (and girls). I have had her checked for the patellar luxation, and the open fontenel problems with her vet and she is fine, the PRA is something that usually doesn’t show up in the animal till later on, but I didn’t know that they had a registry. I will check into that with our vet.
I knew about the isoflurane, she had retained one baby tooth and had to get it removed, and I read everything I could find about the procedure and the breed going under anesthetic. Her bite now is fine. I also had her microchipped while she was under.
I will see if they have any conformation classes in this area after the holidays and sign up. I would be helpful to see what the other pups her age look like. There are only three other papillons that I’ve seen (in person) since I got her, two where enormously overweight (the woman actually said “I don’t know why he’s so fat, I only feed him the best lunchmeats” gaaarrrrr! And the other dog was well proportioned, but still quite large, about 15 pounds.
I may ultimately chicken out and not breed her, but I’m just trying to get as much information, from as many sources, as I can so that I can make an informed decision. If all else fails, I guess I can take her for schutzhund training.
