Good choice of user name
I’d ask what the fuck this is about, but of course…
And it’s a special kind of weird to pit someone who hardly posts anything, regardless of name.
NM
You know… I’ve never noticed you before.
The little icon after the name in a quote will take you to the original post.
What’s the minimum post frequency a target should have before it is no longer a special kind of weird to pit them over a bad post, in your opinion?
Would it be too much trouble for you to, y’know, flesh out this pitting just a wee bit. It’s all well and good to link to a single post, but without some context, it’s useless.
Thanks ever so much. Mwah.
Well, thanks for that, at least.
Enough that someone else knows who the fuck you’re talking about (see TriPolar’s post above).
I *am * a drive-byer with little to offer but attempts at humor, I admit. As such, in a serious discussion when only one person has responded, it hardly seems worth it to follow up - especially when the thread has moved on by several posts. For that, I apologize to all so offended.
But really? Much as I take pride in my first pitting, it’s greatly undercut by being the lamest ever.
You know you can just put the text of the post you’re quoting directly in the OP, right?
The real tragedy here is this is such a deeply lame pitting of such a deserving shitheel.
I know it’s gauche to ask, but would you mind explaining the humor in the pitted post?
It’s a thing. Most recent cited, right here in my “liberal” hometown.
(Emphasis added)
Of course, “straight panic” would be ridiculously ineffective, which was part of the humor. But mostly, given that everyone had stated the bleedin’ obvious, I never thought any sane non-homophobe would think anyone could be serious. I can only infer that I’m seen as an insane non-non-homophobe.
Miller, I apologize. You’ve been forthcoming about your own sexual orientation, which I admire. I’m deeply sorry that I offended you.
Chalk it up to Poe’s law.
You missed a golden opportunity to say:
I beg to differ then. I wouldn’t pit a drive-by troll, but someone who’s been around for a while, no matter how obscure, are fair game.
I didn’t want to repeat their poor taste “joke” and found the juxtaposition of the user name and not repeating the content amusing.
Getting context is easy for those who care, and for those who don’t … Well they either get the joy of criticizing the pitting as lame, or they get to go on with their life not bothered by an inconsequential internet post.
I just thought it was the perfect time to abbreviate “never mind”.
I used the quote function to get the link, so the text was there before I edited in the elision.
And I’m fine with it being a lame pitting. Means less attention to a shitty post. (I know. No pitting at all would have meant zero attention. But less amusement for ME!)
Ah, but there’s a third option. Some of us will see the thread, and be confused. Unable to cope with such a new concept as emotions, we’ll click on the title, open it up in hopes of understanding.
But nooooo… now we’re confused and frustrated. And we MUST get to the bottom of this. Ne’er were Holmes and Watson, or Wayne and Pennyworth faced with such a mystery. Clues, there must be clues. Links were clicked, users used, investigators investigated… and the incantation “See All Posts By” was invoked.
Thanks to the follow up posts here, I now know what’s going on. But my blood pressure was dangerously erratic for a while there.
I mean, clicking on the icon to see the post in question should be your first step. Watson probably wouldn’t think of it, but Holmes surely would, and then he’d mock Watson.
“Surely you knew that […] meant the quote had been modified by the quoter, Watson? And from there it only follows naturally to click the very well known link right by the quoted users name, bringing you straight to the thread in question.”
snort. Getting context would have been easier if you hadn’t edited out the post. If it was so inconsequential, why didn’t you just blow right by it.
Failing other posts indicating otherwise, I’m assuming don’t mind me fell victim to Poe’s law and is not, in actual fact, a homophobe.
