While we’re on this subject, can any UK dopers tell me if “thingumybob” is the standard spelling over there? I always knew it as “thingamabob” or "thingumabob, " but one of the first records issued by The Beatles’ Apple label was a song Paul wrote for the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band, called “Thingumybob.” I haven’t seen it spelled like that anywhere else. Any ideas?
