Doogie Howser's gay?

Link.

Who’d of thunk it? I’m gonna have to rewatch Starship Troopers again (Ouch!) to see if it makes a difference.

I was thinking more along the lines of, “About damn time he came out!”

Maybe I am jaded, but having lived in LA (West Hollywood to be exact) this is really old news.

Still, interesting to see he has officially come out. And Lance Bass awhile back, plus whatshisface from Grey’s Anatomy…is this some kind of trend? Are some actors finally starting to realize it isn’t such a big deal after all, and the world doesn’t crash and burn when they come out?

I guess it isn’t such a Mission Impossible, nor such Risky Business to be honest…wonder when some others will follow suit.

I didn’t know that, but I can’t say that I’m particularly shocked.

Poor guy. He’s done some plausible roles as an adult, but it seems he’s fated to live and die as “Doogie.”

Then again, that’s how I think of him, too.

How’s he gonna pull off his role on How I Met Your Mother now though? He’s a real dog on that show, not believable anymore.

Ah, so I’m not the only one who has trouble when an actor comes out! I mentioned this in the current Grey’s Anatomy thread, and got gently chided for letting my knowledge of an actor’s personal lifestyle influence how I view their acting, especially (for me) Anne Heche.

Like Dan “Bulldog” Butler on Fraiser?

Neil has been very successful doing musical theatre–Rent, Caberet, Assassins, tick…tick…boom. Don’t you just love sterotypes that are true?

Yep, I saw him in the last two, and since I never watched Doogie Howser, I had a great time. Lots of talent.

And his gayness has been low-key knowledge in NY theater circles for a while. He’s a friendly, talented guy who always chips in in the numerous charity benefits theater people do, and he’s well-liked.

I think the more important role was as himself in Harold & Kumar, as an even bigger dog.

See, i just don’t get this attitude. Especially since people only seem to apply it to homosexuality, and not to all the other myriad possibilities that arise in the acting profession. They’re called “actors” because they make a living playing people that they’re not.

Do you find the James Bond movies unbelievable because Sean Connery or Roger Moore couldn’t really kill 30 bad guys without getting a wrinkle in their suits? It may also surprise you to learn that Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day) does not have the computer skills to disable the mothership of an advanced alien species, that Sandra Oh (of Grey’s Anatomy) is not actually a doctor, and that Dustin Hoffman did not have a developmental disability when he played the lead in Rain Man.

And, when it comes to issues of sexuality, no-one seems to have a problem with straight actors playing gay characters. News flash: Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger aren’t gay; neither, to my knowledge, is Eric McCormack, nor is most (all?) of the cast The “L” Word.

Climbs off soapbox.

I had no idea there were so many Republicans in Hollywood.

I’ve been bouncing around the Broadway sites reading about this. If I see one more reference to DOOGAY, I’m going to barf.

Claps for Mhendo.
I’ve heard that Sir Ian isn’t. . . really. . . a wizard!

Dreamkiller. Soulcrusher.

Ironically, Leisha Hailey, whose character is one of the few non-lesbians on the show, is the only actual lesbian in the cast.

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle will never be the same to me…

Credit George Takei for starting this trend.

But he loves this woman.

And my black friends are so well-spoken!

I wish more people would come out. I wish more Republicans would come out, particularly.

If at the end you want them to cheer
Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gay
Whether it’s Hamlet, Othello or Lear
Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gay…

Couldn’t resist. Anyway - who cares, really… so Doogie likes Doodes. More power to him. There’s no need for him to stay in the closet deep enough that he can see Narnia…

 Whee!

Rush Limbaugh says NPH is either faking being gay or else he’s off his medicine.

Wait, I’m thinking of another 80s TV star…
