Doom II

Anyone still play Doom or Doom II?
Anyone know how to make a Microsoft IntelliSys USB laser mouse work with DOS stuff like Doom in Win 98?

I love those laser mice! Never have to clean them, and they impress your geek friends!

Since you have a USB mouse, you need to run Doom from within Windows, since DOS doesn’t support USB. Otherwise, you could use the USB to PS2 adapter and download DOS mode mouse drivers from Microsoft.

I play Doom II. I don’t play it regularly, but I still have it installed on my HD. I play it probably once every two months.

Vandal,
So call me up sometime and we can do co op (my favorite) or you can toast me in deathmatch.

All the “USB to PS2” adapters I’ve seen are for plugging a PS/2 mouse into a USB port. Are there adapters that work the other way (USB mouse into a PS/2 port)?

Yes I play DOOM II. I play a few minutes at night about 3 days a week . I’ve played the levels so often it’s like fiddling with worry beads. It’s not really that interesting anymore it’s just sort of a detached Zen place to go.

Doom setup mode will accomodate standard mouse drivers as a input source in addition to the keyboard. If you set it up and play it as a DOS mode under Windows 98 task it will pick up the mouse driver in memory.

What’s happening is it not seeing the mouse driver?

I re-read your question. If the problem is the USB driver not working in DOS mode there are some things you can do.

1: If you intend on playign in REAL mode DOS make sure that if you have a USB DOS mode option in your PC’s BIOS setup that it is activated otherwise DOS may not see the USB mouse until Win98 kicks in. Also make sure there is a line in autoexec.bat loading the USB mouse driver.

2:Run the game in Win98 protected mode although this gives some sound card drivers a real bellyache.

scr4, my USB Intellimouse Explorer came with a little green adapter (I’m using it now)- you can plug a USB mouse into one end, then plug the other end into a PS2 port. If you don’t have one, perhaps Microsoft would be kind and send you a new one.

I can answer the first question: I still play DOOM I and II occasionally, and Hexen fairly often. Great games never go obsolete.

Sorry, though, I haven’t a clue about USB.
