A friend of mine was telling me about an odd email that a Dutch guy sent to a her group at work. Can the more Dutch-savvy among the teeming millions enlighten me (and her) as to what in heck “doorzakken” is supposed to be?
Before you say it, I would do a search, but given the context I might not want to actually go to any of the sites that would result from that here at work. Besides, this should lead to some interesting conversation.
Well, I’m not afraid of a bit o’ porn poppin’ up here at work, so I did a quick search. Here’s what I found on a page written in Dutch for what looked to be a pub and the same paragraph in their english translation.
Not terribly apparent, is it? I didn’t think so either, so I found a Dutch/English dictionary, and looked for "doorzakken. No luck, but I did find this:
doorzoeken - 1) search.
So, from all of this I think doorzakken may translate to “the object of your search.” I’m sure Coldfire will be along shortly, it’s about 11:15pm in Amsterdam, to tell you just how wrong I am.

“Doorzakken” means “to paint the town red”. In other words, go out, party, drink a lot, don’t get home untill the sun goes up.
It is slang, that’s why UncleBeer couldn’t find it in the dictionary. I think it originated somewhere in the 70’s: I do recall a Carnaval song in the early 80’s by two guys from my home town called “Zak 's lekkur deur” (it’s a verb constructed out of two words). Please, don’t try and translate THAT. It is slang AND dialect
