Well, it popped up at the beginning of turn 9, so I voted then.
Hopefully others follow suit! Though itβs unlikely, considering Jubby will be kicked if he doesnβt make a move for this turn. So Iβll just have to bring up another vote then.

Rubberneck is United Kingdom ββββββ
Alexio711 is Sweden ββββββ

AClockworkMelon is South Korea ββββββ
Pink has been eliminated from the game and it looks like Red is soon to follow.
If so that will leave the final roster of world powers at USA, Sweden, UK, South Korea, and Brazil.
Thereβs plenty of game left to play but we are entering what Iβd call the endgame. Thereβs precious little land that hasnβt been claimed (most of whatβs left is in central Africa) and the final borders are being drawn.
People who would be interested in the next game should feel free to post in this thread, though keep in mind this last stage of the game will probably last a fair bit (though I donβt imagine too long now that we seem to be churning through an average of 1.5 turns a day).
Free Press News, August 8, 2014:
Top Headline: βUSA STINKS! GO BRAZIL!β
UPDATE: After signing a peace treaty with Brazil, the Americans ruthlessly betrayed their new friends, sending an army of tanks larger than anything before seen in the western hemisphere. This army has already conquered the colony of Belize, and now turns its gaze south, where Brazilian troops have already dug in and fortified, prepared to fight to the last man to defend the places we stole first!
Just when things looked most grim for the heroic Brazilians, their mighty (and sneaky!) marines landed in Texas, gloriously conquering this territory in the name of His Dark Majesty, Lord of the Phat Asses Darth Mosier, delivering a crushing blow to the fascist Americans! God bless the troops!
ANNOUNCEMENT: Alliances have finally been successfully TURNED OFF. FIVE NATIONS ENTER! ONE NATION LEAVES!
I used your link to sign up. Iβll give it a try next time you start a game and have room.

The North and South Americas are fully at war now, with clashes throughout Central America and the southern United States. Maybe Shotfish bit off more than he could chew?
The rest of the global powers seem content to watch while accelerating their colonization efforts in Africa.
Sure, Iβll message you when the next game starts. Is your username on atWar the same as on the Dope?

Aggressive expansion into Africa by all the Eurasian powers has begun in earnest. Meanwhile the tide has turned very harshly against the US as troops from South and Central America pour into Texas, Florida, and eastern Canada.

After a decisive loss in eastern Brazil the United States has surrendered. Only four nations remain!
I apologize for committing to the game and not keeping up. I had several things crop up unexpectedly.
Interesting I might try this
Brazil is beset by enemies on all sides! Our heroes are ready to meet the armies of Sweden, UK, and Korea as they crash and shatter upon the shores of the Americas!
For glory! WAAAAAAGHHHH!
Brazils army does not stand a chance against my North African Turkish Spanish-French Italians from the UK!

These last few turns have been action-packed. A massive joint British/Swedish invasion of the Americas finally hits home on turn 37, with huge clashes on the eastern shores of North America and on the waters of the South Atlantic. Meanwhile a large Korean army arrives in northeastern Europe, capturing Swedish-controlled cities in southern Russia.
Easily the bloodiest turn or two of the game, with each of the four remaining powers losing dozens and in some cases hundreds of units.
βIn some casesβ meaning me, of course.
Donβt worry, those were just the B-squad. The REAL armyβs right behind them! Beware, suckers!
I just signed up. Send me a PM when you are ready to begin the next game.

Korean forces march further into Russia and Ukraine from the east, while in the west the UK begins its attack into Germany in an effort to claim as much land as possible in Europe before the war there has ended. Meanwhile Swedish forces capture key points in northeastern Brazil. The British invasion fleet in North America is repelled.
Even bloodier than the last few turns with soaring casualties on all sides.
PLAYER LIST FOR GAME 2
So far the list of potential players for game #2 is as follows:
AClockworkMelon
Rubberneck
Mosier
Alexio711
lunaticlucas
Shotfish
wevets
Johnny Bravo
BrianJ
tonyfop
Chairman Jubby
Everyone whoβs on this list will be given a heads-up when the second game is close to starting.
Thatβs 11 people on the list awaiting confirmation, a few more than we had last game and a respectable roster indeed. But I can host games of up to 20 people so there are 9 slots remaining. Donβt be shy if youβre possibly interested in playing! The more the merrier.
Next game weβll be using the same rule as last time which is no selecting countries that share a land border with previously-selected countries. Other than that everything is fair game.
I would like to play next game with alliances enabled, especially if we have so many more players.
Also, Iβd like to standardize communication between everyone. We can use PMs on the dope, yahoo messenger, email, dedicated forum specifically just for the game, or any other standard we can all agree on, but I think itβs important that thereβs SOMETHING that everyone can use to contact everyone else. The gameβs built-in chat function is extremely limited.
Thereβs an in-game mail service (not the chat) that some people have been using, but I agree that itβs limited (most of which because as you mentioned in a private message to me the game link bypasses the screen where you get mail and because there are no email alerts for it).
We could use a dedicated forum but Iβm not sure how thrilled people would be to have to sign up at two places (the game and the other forum) in order to play.
I think in the end the best idea would be to encourage our non-Doper players to sign up here.
I donβt really have much interest in playing with the alliance mechanic switched on. People can make deals and alliances as they have in this match without it. With the mechanic switched on the games will just devolve into team matches as a matter of course. Iβve played enough games of atWar to know how it fundamentally alters the game.
