DopeFest - Melbourne, Australia!

Bubbaleechie, FairyChatMoose and myself are about to leave, lunches are packed, the nappy bag is in the pram and bubs is wearing a nice new outfit especially for the occasion.

We shall hit the baby show for a couple of hours then meet y’all at Flinders St Station.

Can’t wait

Just to recap. Flinders street station steps (AKA under the clocks) with all the other weirdos of this fair city at around 1. We will be moving off in a pack to parts unknown at 1:30.

My train pulls in at 12:51 supposedly so those coming with pitchforks and flaming torches may like to cut down on the wait by being on platform 1 at that time. Just to make sure no innocents are caught up in it I am the huge bespectacled woman wearing faded blue jeans, brown boots, light grey tee with a patterned navy overshirt.

I really hope folks come, it is looking like a great day for it.

As I mentioned in the ‘Meldope’ thread on G’Dope, I’m not sure whether I will be able to make it. I found out last night that a very dear friend of mine has passed away, and today I am feeling awfully miserable and can’t seem to stop blubbering.

However, if I can manage to settle down a bit, I’ll see ya’s on the steps at 1.00.

Oh, and for recognition purposes, if I get there, I’ll be the mad crone with the red eyes. (And khaki cargoes and black sleeveless top).

I am very sorry to hear of your loss Bucky. Please take very good care of yourself.

I would send email but my server seems really screwy and only a small proportion of mail is getting in or out so if anyone has written and I have not replied I either have not seen it or my response has gone missing. I have replied to all mail received that wasn’t spam.

I would like to extend my condolences as well, kambuckta. But I do hope you can make the party, and perhaps raise a glass to the memory of your dear friend.

Quasi

Thanks for posting this. I will resend my email.

Kambuckta I’m very sorry you’ve lost a close friend. There’s no words I can say, but I do hope the pain of loss isn’t too sharp. Take care of yourself.

MelDopers in general : Have fun ! Wish I was there

YEEEE****-HAW!****!

How nice to hear from leechbabe, Thylacine and kambuckta all the way from Melbourne! Sorry that I missed getting drooled on by bubbaleechie, but I feel honored that you three would take time from your Dopefest to give me a call.

Thanks so much! It was very special and very kind, and I will always treasure the memory! Y’all!

Quasi

Sorry I missed out on your call, MelDopers. I got your message you left last night, leechbabe, (I was on the phone with an NZ friend at the time you rang), but it was late by the time I retrieved it. This morning, I had to dash out the door to do a cleaning job. The rest of the day was mainly spent resting up or talking to friends.

I wasn’t too sure where to send an email by midday here, anyway.

So – glad you all had a great time. Take care.

To start at the beginning Leechbabe, Bubbaleechie, Kambuckta and I found eachother at Flinders Street Station. We then wandered about asking lost looking strangers if they were there to meet people from a message board and had no luck. No doubt if we had asked for dopers we would have found more companions

Over the road to Y&Js and FairyChatMoose met the famous Chloe painting who is in the pics that Leechy will get online for us. We had a catch up and a giggle and then wandered off to find a phone card and a quiet place to call Quasi and Wolfie from.
Latch was not kidding about calling cards being the way to go! We nearly found an internet cafe to beg for phone numbers when we realised our call to Quasi only set us back 80c and we had bought a $10 card. Quasi has the best warm voice wrapped up in a honey of an accent. It was like being tickled.

We then grabbed a little tucker (um, that would be food) and Bucky had to leave so that was pretty much it. It was just a nice relaxed time. I am sorry others couldn’t make it this time.

Kam and Thylacine I had a great time, it was good fun catching up with you both.

FairyChatMoose behaved herself apart from the incident with a naked Chloe.

Was fantastic to talk to you Quasi - I just love your accent

Sorry to have missed you Ice Wolf maybe another time.

We met at Flinders St Station as arranged, for a while we wandered around with little signs to identify ourselves. Then started asking random strangers if they were there to meet people from and internet message board or if they knew Cecil Adams. Once we had established no-one else seemed to have made it to the Dope we departed to Y&J’s.

We drank, we chatted, went for a wander, chattered, ate and drank some more.

Lovely relaxing afternoon.

Damn you beat me to it mate

Wel well well, who knew our old habits of simulposting were transferable?

I claim that if the Hamsters hadn’t eaten my post I would have beaten you!

Good hamsters. I’ll have to send them a treat. Pics in Leechboy’s mail by the way if you haven’t found them yet. I am afraid none of me were worth sending, such a shame, I am devastated of course. :b

Got 'em.

Am working on the site now.

Wouldn’t have missed it for the world! Three pretty ladies on the phone and talking to me!

Who cares about the thousands of kilometers and 14 hours into the future we were separated? I loved every minute we spent together, and if my smile had widened any more, I probably would have decapitated myself.

Glad y’all got home safely and as far as accents go, I don’t think there are any gentler , sweeter ones than those I heard last night. Well, maybe one, and she knows who she is! Must be an international thing, with the accents. Down here in the south, our ladies just melt when they hear a Brit, Aussie or German talk.

Looking forward to seeing those pics, and I am happy that y’all had a good time! Next year? Same telephone?

Q

so it would be wrong to try to distract you then?

Quasi, if I was of the persuasion you would have had me at hello.

I remember when I was in Wisconsin I heard a fabulous southern accent at the next table and the look on the fellow’s face when I leaned over as we were leaving and told him he had the best accent I had ever heard was priceless. I guess they don’t get too many aussies in the Outback Steakhouse in Madison. Not hard to see why from the menu but it was a fun moment. You beat him.

Kam, myself and bubs

Kam, Bubs and a loose Moose

Moose and Chloe,oh yeah and me (ooooooh boobies :p)

Moose doing her bit for censorship

Lets all get our picture taken with the naked lady

Thanks for hosting them Leechy. Time for me to pay attention to the cat who is making it obvious violence will happen if I do not stop staring at this machine instead of trying to make up for being out today.

Goodnight
