Any Melbourne Dopers interested in a gathering?
Thought I would start a thread to gauge interest and take it from there.
Post your “yay” or “nay” here along with any other info you feel may be relevant (availability, suggested location etc, etc).
Well, I’m not a Melbourne Doper, but I’d love to come over and meet you guys. Any chance of something during the last weekend in October this year?

Count me in Leechie. I sure would like to meet that strange Chewy too. And would love to catch up with Kam and Thyles and it would be great to see Redboss again too. As suggested before, a drink or a meal at Southgate would be central. Although parking is a bit of a bugger.
(P.S. Icey - would love to meet you too, but I’m rather hoping that this next one will be a bit before October!)

I’ve just moved south from QLD so am keen to meet Victorian dopers. I’m not in Melbourne, rather in what my QLD friends refer to as “The Armpit of Victoria”, but I intend to make my way into Melbourne fairly regularly.
I would love to meet Thylacine especially.
As for availability - weekends tend to be better for me, but I’m working one saturday in four and on call one full weekend in four, so it’s a bit hit or miss.
My only other request is that it’s public transport accessible… I don’t like driving in Melbourne… being chased down swanston street by a tram dinging at me was a bit hair-raising.

How far ahead do you know your weekend schedule? For example, if this get-together happened in February, do you know which weekends are OK?
We get given a month or so at a time, but I won’t get February’s schedule until the 2nd of February.
Probably best that you plan it without me and then I come on in if I can make it. If I can’t make it this time, maybe there will be a next time in the not-too-distant future, maybe in October when IceWolf is here.
I’m in Sydney but love Melbourne. I would have been there on previous occassions if it fitted in with me. So, pot luck but in principle… yes.

I’m mostly from Brisbane, but I’ve been all over the place for work, including Goondiwindi, remote north west QLD, Oakey (near Toowoomba) and many others.
I’m really a returning Victorian because I lived in Melbourne when I was a child.

Well it’s a small world after all, I used to spend summer holidays with relatives who lived near Toowoomba at first then moved out to a property near Oakey. The ants were particularly fierce in Oakey as I recall. They now live way out past Gympie but I am yet to get there.
I’m from the Gold Coast, moved to Melbourne in 2000 because my husband (then fiancee) lives here. My parents still live there so I get to visit once or twice a year. I miss the sun and the colours occasionally but Melbourne is great and I’m happy to have moved.
Am I the only one who thinks she sees Redboss each time the current ad for The Full Monty stage show comes on? I am sure he is the vox pop at the end but I have been wrong before and it has been a year or so since I last saw him in the flesh.

I’m interested in coming along to any gathering. Saturday night is good for me, as is Sunday afternoon.
And I think I’ll have to start watching TV again if it really is Redboss on those ads 
Hey, no worries, Eggles. Knowing the MelDopers knack of getting such things organised, I’m hoping there’ll be a few chances this year for this Wolf to see a gathering of your folks. If one gets planned for late October, pencil me in.
Ice Wolf not only are you pencilled in, but I have noted down Wolf/MelDope with a permanent marker pen in triplicate. There is no way you are escaping being spoiled by us 
I’m a go-er but Sundays are a bit tough because I have to work at least until 4.00 pm…so if it HAD to be a Sunday, could it be later in the arvo?
And it is indeed the BossBoy on the telly. You can’t mistake that moustache.
