Doper Diplomacy - Fall and Winter 2002

We should work together then, Shibb, I am also trying to spread the joy that is Italy around the civilised world (plus Turkey).

Although to clarify, in Dip 1040, I am trying to wipe the scourge that is Italy from the civilized world. (with proper spelling this time)

Stay confused, Abe. It’s for the best.

:Abe Babe shows up at the Chance abode holding a sack of pebbles and an air horn, asking directions to Weirddave’s house:

Yes, Abe, I think we just need you to submit Italian orders one or two times in the Dip 1040 game so that the rest of us can climb back in it. Better make it three just to be on the safe side.

And many here would would maintain that the only civilised spelling of the word “civilized” is correct in your first attempt. YMMV.

Everyone’s order’s received, adjudication after I get back from work ( Hopefully noonish, possibly 3 ish )

Abe, you get a penalty for the air horn. I’m awarding one of your SCs to…Japan.

I think I want Weirddave’s job. How does one get home “noonish” from work?

Well, you go about 75 miles east. When you hit Baltimore go north east until you leave civilization (oops, you did that when you crossed the river into Maryland).

Then look for Ginger. Ask her.

Trust me. If I submitted orders for Italy for even one turn, wouldn’t be nobody climbing back in it except me.

Well, my assumption was that you would submit orders for Italy and none for Austria AND that Italy’s real orders would be taken over your obviously bogus ones. Of course this only works in Dip 1040 world; in Dip 1046 world we always consider your Italian orders to be totally bogus.

Oh, and here I was assuming that Abe and I would just switch for this turn.

That would be fun.

If we’re doing some kind of Freaky Friday switch, I get to be Tatum O’Neal. You can be Marsha Mason.

1046 is Adjudicated. Now, what to do with my afternoon…Lounge by the pool…Drink champaigne in front of the big screen…Fly off to Monico for Baccarach…Choices, choices…It’s so hard, y’know?

I get to be the jail bait?

At least I get to dump that banana peel into the mailbox. That’s cool.

Don’t try to out-reference me, foul Chicagoan.

Hey, smart guy. You still have a bit of Chicago stench on you, so I wouldn’t be throwing stones if I were you.

That last set of choices has me a little worried:

Bacharach

or

Baccarat

or

baccarat?

Hey, he’s from Baltimore.

Go easy on him.

EasyDave has a pretty good ring to it as a username. I don’t think Ginger would care too much for it, though.

OK, I was gone all day yesterday and I’m just getting back up to speed on the 1040 stuff. Got the message about Maeglin’s time issues and the vote for a winner. I figured we all might as well open this up to discussion instead of just doing a blind vote.

I voted against declaring a winner last time for a couple of reasons. First, this is only my second game and frankly I was kinda hoping to actually have the chance to play a game out into the mid-game and end-game. Last time I was first eliminatd, so it was a short experience. Secondly, I had a slight optomism that I still had a chance to challenge Abe Babe in a race to victory. It’s obviously slim, but I am only 2 SCs behind.

Neither of these two things have changed really, though Italy has probably tilted the playing field more against me. But, before I hadn’t heard Maeglin’s situation.

If everyone else feels like the game is already decided, and that the hassle of replacing Maeglin (or his continuing out of obligation or necessity when he’ll only be half playing) outweighs any interest in seeing the game through, I have no problem conceeding.

Anyways, can I field some opinions from all you guys? Am I the only one interested in continuing? Does the Maeglin factor tilt anyone opinion on the value of playing it out at least a little farther?

For what it’s worth, I have been talking with JC (Emperor of the GMs) about running my own game. This would be a standard Dip game, but with Italy having a second fleet in Rome instead of an army. This would give Italy more flexibility and give France less of an edge in the initial diplomacy in the western med. I think two games is my limit, especially GMing for the first time, so it would definitely wait until after either 1040 or 1046 is over.
