Doper Diplomacy - Fall and Winter 2002

Ooo…

Injected outside issues into the game.

A chancy gambit on the newcomers part!

I’m thinking 3-1, McGee.

Everyone?

I dunno. It might be a strategic error not to take him to the airport. I’d get him to the airport and then “accidentally” drive away with the luggage. Unless “take you or your luggage to the airport” is some sort of lawyer slang for a perverted act.

‘Stab’? You wound me with your accusations.

I was exceedingly clear as to my intentions for your territories. Your former agricultural resources and your women will be spared despite your impudence. You were the only one going back on your word in this transaction.

Most lawyer slang terms for perverted act contain either “bill” or “contingency fee”

Let us hope there is no confusion as to the proper utilization of each.

Naw, no outside issues. Due to a lack of originality of thought, sometimes we communicate through movie quotes. So he quotes from True Grit in this instance, and I respond with a little Stripes.

However, if it will give me more centers I am more than willing to introduce outside issues.

I believe ‘rape and pillage’ to be the appropriate catchall term. The more uncouth of my troops (and all the way out there on the western front, so far from the shining beacon of civilization among the darkness that is Turkey, who can truly say how well-regulated are the fighting men) would probably be adventurous enough to stretch their imaginations to accomodate the idea of pillaging Austrian maidens (the ‘rape of the environment’ is a common enough phrase). The Sultan frowns upon such behavior, of course, but what can you really expect from the lower castes.

Can I get some reslts here, I’ve got the shakes for gods sake. Have you no mercy?

As in, “Oh, yes, bill me, baby!” or “Check out the contigency fee on that one!”?

I thought it might also contain the term “penal code”, but that’s just me.

Omni asks, and I answer. I still don’t understand some of what RealPolitik was trying to do. ‘Parsing error’, my ass. Anyhow, the bug went away somehow.

Omni, your Gulf of Lyon fleet’s gotta retreat somewhere. Choices are Tuscany or OTB. Check the map, and let me know. I’ll post it as quickly as I can.

I’ve postponed the Winter 1905 move a day, and pushed the rest of the schedule back accordingly.

Wait’ll you have to enter some moves in the history manually, RT. That’s a blast.

Well, I do that with retreats already, so ‘some’ moves would be OK. Doing all 34 moves in a turn of Diplomacy, OTOH, would be torture.

Looks like theres a mistake, or else my understanding of the rules was mistaken…

How can Austria support both Moscow and Sevastpool mutually? Doesn’t one have to support the other? They way I understood the rules shouldn’t the Moscow army have been bounced?

No, two adjacent units can support each other, as long as both remain stationary.

Well, now I wonder if Ive fucked that up in the past.

A brief aside: How did you all get into playing Diplomacy? For me, there was a brief experiment in it as part of an AP History class in 1980. My next experience was here. I’d especially be interested in how JC and others got involved as GMs. In college, high school, outside via hobby clubs, pesky associates at the law firm, etc?

BTW, that reminds me that I’ve not seen anything from Maeglin since he abdicated the Russian throne. Hope all is well with him.

I got my start here on the ole SDMB, in case it was of interest.

Some high-school friends introduced me to the game, back in another lifetime.

And WHAT a lifetime.

I ran into it my first year in college. Call it 17 years ago. I had a LOT more hair then.

I first played about 2 years ago or so, when Maeglin GMed a game here on the SDMB.
