It’s been disabled. I figured it would be. I still think it’d be a nice thing to have, though, after the new board is sorted out, but that’s just me.

I would think that TPTB (Notably Jerry) would realize that once Dopers are allowed to start crawling around their shiny new server we would find just about anything they hadn’t turned off before startup.
They (he) probably did but underestimated it’s effects on the database. Perhaps when some of the basic bugs are worked out we can talk them into turning it back on.
I’m still not sure what it’s for or what it does, but I want it.
I turned it off. Blame me. 
It’s just temporary until we get the official go-ahead to get them back going and after we hammer out any rules/guidelines we need to make sure the groups don’t get out of hand. Personally, I think they’re pretty nifty.

Yeah, I tried to join the martial arts group and it said I didn’t have sufficient privileges. WTH? So our new, improved board is being cut back already. Figures. And it’s running so slow I have time to play solitaire while I wait for a thread to load. That’ if it does load and doesn’t time out.
Weren’t things supposed to be improved?
Another suggestion I have is maybe have the groups be for those paying members only?

Well, heck. Here I am, back for the free posting, got all excited about the military dopers group, only to be thwarted. I, also, hope that they enable this feature for everybody.
So, would a group for physical health issues be HIP, then?
Hell, lets just start a Paying Members group.
But if we give the milk away for free who is going to buy the cow?
The object is not to get people to pay to post, they are trying the advertising money stream.
When you turn them back on, please do some post testing. A bunch of us were unable to post messages in the groups using the **Quick Reply **and the Go **Advance **button did not go anywhere.
BTW: I had created two, like **Tripler **suggested, I immediately created one for to facilitate the Jersey Dopefests and I created one called the Entmoot for Tolkien fans to gather. I of course joined Tripler’s military one.
