Doperéal Digest!

A little bit more details about Saturday night. We met at Reubens (which is a deli located downtown) were scott_evil, MsRobyn, Laurange, lord and ladydisco and friends, Curious Canuck, Eonwe and a friend (sorry didn’t catch your screen name, dear) matt_mcl , Upside_Down_Amber, kungfu lola (despite being a high holy day for her ;)) and myself were joined by jovan (who had just arrived from Japan) and eunoia. Everybody enjoyed a nice meal and good conversation (we were not worried about being rowdy, we figured that with a crowd this size, they would be wary about throwing us out before we paid the bill :stuck_out_tongue: ). After the meal, the crowd separated, some of us going to Grumpys, a bar nearby, where matt_mcl and kungfu lola proceeded to dance a storm.

Today, we went to La Ronde (Eonwe and friend, Curious Canuck, MsRobyn, matt_mcl, Laurange, jools, scott_evil. the discos and friend, and me) (all tired) where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It all started at the Vampire (in which MsRobyn and I didn’t partake). If you go on this ride (from the comments I gathered), you require a strong stomach or the ability to beat it into submission, then scott_evil and ladydisco spotted the Disco Ronde and convinced everybody to go (personnally, I don’t like going in three conflicting directions at the same time but everybody else enjoyed themselves). Oh, I forgot, before the Vampire, lorddisco and his friend Shane went reverse bungie jumping.

After Disco Ronde, we split in two groups, one going eating and the other going to Volcanozor 3D, a ride that requires a MST3K treatment, that shows you a cheesy movie, while shaking your seat around. It is not as bad as it sounds, it’s like being in a videogame. After that we went to eat and regroup.

The next ride was La pitoune, sort of a rollercoaster on water but slower and lower. At which point Eonwe and friend had to leave, but not before tasting beavertails.

We split ourselves again, the main group going to Le monstre, a giant wooden rollercoaster, and MsRobyn going on the Toboggan nordique (a smaller rollercoaster), I skip that one too (I have something against speed and heights in the open. After that a few more rides (ferris wheel, another trip on the Pitoune) and we were off.

And I big thank you again to eunoia for the lift on Saturday night. If I forgot to mention something, please don’t hesitate to add to it.

I’m home. I’m exhausted. I was thoroughly tickled, poked, and wrestled (against my will. Honest. I didn’t enjoy it at all  When can we do that again?)by ** Daerlyn & Ms Robyn**, and I survived by white knuckled approach to the “Orbite” thanks to pep talks from everyone. The ride itself was thrilling (with the most thrilling thing being that I survived!). Being launched up at a great speed then falling again was a thrill to say the least.

The Discos and I drove home tired yet satisfied. [Mr/Lord Disco** slept the entire way. I drove about 145km/h to get home and only had two moments where I thought I would die. Both related to tailgaters. (Even at 170 when I sped up to shake them! Needless to say, I made them pass me by slowing to 110.)

In any case, [Rachel**, it was great meeting you! Eonwe, it was a blast. Thanks for the shirt! Evils and LaurAnge, thanks for the accomodations (and parking garage), and for yummy melon to MomAnge. Everyone else, I had a blast!

Lastly, thank you so much to LadyDisco for giving me the greatest present! I promise to practice up to be the BEST air guitar player ever. I hope the picture of me busking on the street corner with my new air guitar turns out.

You are all wonderful people. When is the next one? I’m exhausted, but ready to go!

I guess that CCs previous post can apply to me regarding the exhaustion. I totally forgot to mention his air guitar (cool gift BTW), his impromptu male wet T-shirt contest after our day at La Ronde, the walk to watch a glorious sunset or maybe it was the effect of watching Italian line dancing as performed by seniors that caused the temporary amnesia. As to answer your question, Curious, the next scheduled 'fest is Sugardope in the spring, although we might do something special for Sunspace when he will come in September. We’ll keep you posted  .

It’s Monday morning, and after an all-nighter with jeremy evil, I’m finally awake and drinking coffee while I wait for scott evil to wake up.

Okay.

Before I start, it was great to meet the Montreal Dopers and CuriousCanuck and The Discos. We all got along famously, and I’m really looking forward to seeing y’all again soon. I can honestly say I’ve got a few new board crushes including CC , matt_mcl, and detop.

Okay. A more thorough description of La Ronde.

I have this thing about falling, so the Vampire was out. Actually, my constitution isn’t as strong as it used to be, and the whole thing just looked, well, scary. Yes, I know. Roller coasters are supposed to be scary; that’s the point. But this just seemed to be outside my comfort zone. Since detop felt the same way, we had a lovely conversation while we waited for the others.

After that, we went on the Disco Ronde. Whoever programs the music has excellent taste. The ride itself was a lot of fun. While I have issues with falling, I don’t have issues with spinning around in circles till I’m dizzy, and since I was in my own car, I didn’t need to worry about crushing anyone else from the centrifugal force.

Then we did this ride which, as detop said, did not require you to suspend disbelief. This ride required you to abandon it entirely. It was this incredibly cheesy video thing that involved a short video while we waited for the theatre to open. Since the video was in French, it made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. That made it really easy to give it the MST treatment. (Sample tidbit: An exchange between a pushy reporter and a cross American pilot: “How do you feel about fighting these dinosaurs?” Pilot: “Shut up, bitch, and let me do my damn job!”) The stegasaurus looked like it was going to take a huge dump on us, and the evasive maneuvers used by the pilot on the tyrannosaur weren’t very effective. It was still fun, though.

After lunch, we took a leisurely ride on the monorail and got a view of the entire park.

After that, we went on La Pitoune, a log-flume ride. Although there was a drop (Conversation afterwards: “Matt, I’m sorry if I made you go deaf.” “What?”) I was still okay.

After a brief snack break, during which time I sampled my first beaver tail (chocolate banana, if anyone’s interested), we said goodbye to Eonwe and Rachel.

We split up, with some going to the Monster (a huge old wooden coaster), and me going to the Toboggan Nordique. The line was okay, but the coaster broke, so there was a bit of a wait. The ride itself was okay. It made several hairpin turns as it made a gentle descent.

We wandered around for a bit, and some of us went on this UFO ride. Then we went on the Dragon, which is kinda wimpy, even by my standards. Fun (I got off the ride a little dizzy, because it’s just a downward spiral) though.

We got a great view of the city on the Ferris wheel. CC got some pix of me, scott evil and matt_mcl oohing and aahing at the scenery.

Following that, we broke up again and Matt and I went back on La Pitoune. Then we left, tired and sore, but happy.

Robin

Not much to add… just wanted to say I had a great time. It was awesome to meet MsRobyn, ladydisco and lorddisco and their entourage, eunoia, who finally was able to buy me a beer, though I can’t seem to remember why, jovan, jools, and especially Upside_Down_Amber and kungfu lola, who have promised me swimming pools!

Oh, and all you people I already knew, it was all right seeing you to.
Volcanozor 3D!?!?!?!? Volcanozor strikes again!

MsRobyn, was that screach you then?

I had a blast this weekend. It was nice to meet some more Dopers. I really hope to see all of you again - at Dopefests, or otherwise.

That said, wow, I’m sore. Walking around the park and getting thrashed on amusement park rides pretty much did me in.

I guess a sure mark of a good time is waking up sore

Forgot to ask. How is everybody’s sunburns today ? Mine hurt a little bit last night, but today they’re relatively quiet (my arms look like Curious Canuck’s prize lobsters today).

I woke up with ink all over my face from sleeping on (and probably drooling on) the stamp on my hand from La Ronde.

No sunburn though!

I, after all of that, DID get sunburnt. Grr.

I, too had a wonderful time, and I’m very glad I ended up going to LaRonde.

While I had a great time with everyone previously listed, I also had lots of fun with RachelLimbo (is that how you spell it?) and the soon-to-register Hurricane Bob.

We must do this again. I believe there is a Burlington Dope not to far away…

It was great meeting all of you! What a great bunch of people.

I’m sorry I missed the Saturday activities but I’m glad at went to La Ronde yesterday, it was such a thrill to go back after all these years.

No sunburn for me but am I a bit sore from the rides and walking!!!

I hope see all of you again soon…

Dopefests could get addictive

I’m already thinking about next year.

We could go on a cruise on the river, or go back to La Ronde, or to the Botanical garden, or see a display of 18th century drill at the Old Fort or…

Sorry I couldn’t make it, things got busy here. Glad everyone is having a good time.

Well, while we’ve got everyone’s attention, I will point out the Green Mountain Dopefest thread. The fest will be happening October 10-12th! Go post in that thread, it sank to the bottom pretty quick when I first started it a few months ago.

Fun to put faces to the names, a nice group of people. Kudos to those who travelled to Doperéal (MsRobyn, you have to return someday, we didn’t talk!). They really put this local in the pressure cooker to make an appearance. Glad to meet everyone, if all too briefly. Many thanks to jovan for the big favour and a special round of applause to scott evil for making it all happen.

I have photos! I will post these after I take Aaron to daycare.

Robin

Robin, honey, you promised me you’d send me all photos with me in them for cosmetic Photoshopping.

OMG, scott, as IF you need photoshopping.

Amber won’t stop talking about how cute, well-dressed, yummy, etc. you are. If all three of us weren’t gay, I’d be jealous.

~kfl, whose hetero lust is reserved for Guy Ritchie, and Eonwe.

Awwwwww yeah…

You know, I am really a lesbian trapped in… ow! stop hitting me!

I know I did. After my PT appointment today, I fell asleep.

Robin

So, where are these pictures ?
