Doperéal II (Montreal Dopefest) - let's try this again

Count me in.

I’m reviving this thread.

I think everyone should come up and visit.

Yay for Doperéal!

Hell, I’ll see if I can attend. It’s a ways off, so I can’t promise anything (like usual), but I’ll give it a go. I could lug up to three other people with me, too, so long as two of them don’t mind being sardines in a tin for four hours or so.

Well, if me ‘n’ B can ride up with Dave and Robin, we may be able to swing it. Is there some sort of hotel-like place both non-sleezy and affordable?

I am absolutely sure there is. I have never personally stayed in a hotel in Montreal (for obvious reasons), however.

Yay!

If Trinn and I go, we can do it together an split the cost. (If that’s good for ya.)

Still room for two more at your palace, Laur?

It was great seeing all you guys at SugarDope, but it looks like I’m going to be in England for a fair-sized chunk of August working on my dissertation revision.

Have fun, all youse! (Oh, sure, like you needed me to tell you that!)

Sure, I’ll be there. In the meantime, here’s a little something for you cemetery lovers, courtesy of snopes .

BTW, did you know that Montréal’s cemetery contains the second largest numbers of Titanic victims (Halifax being number one).

I’ll try and make it to this one; too bad I missed out on SugarDope.

If it works out to be possible for me to go, d’ya think I could be the third, Mnementh?
::batting eyelashes sweetly::

Hmm, this is looking promising!

I think a cemetary tour would be cool - it would also give us a chance to go to the lookout on Mount Royal (great photo ops there). I also wouldn’t mind draggin’ y’all to the Old Port at night and see an IMAX show… or something.

A Sunday picnic is an idea - perhaps at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île-Sainte-Hélène (part of the old Expo 67 site). We’d get to ride the metro under the rivier, and matt could discuss the details of the yellow line’s construction… And I’m an Expo 67 history buff myself.

I spent my summer there in 67 !

detop… what can I say? I am so envious… When I was 15, I made my parents drive me here (from Ottawa), just so I could ride the minirail, and check out the old U.S., France, and Quebec pavilions.

Which monorail did you ride ? the blue line or the yellow line ?

The only minirail left - it goes (went? I dunno if it’s still operating) around La Ronde. This was in 1987. I was surprised at how slow it was, having ridden the monorail at Expo 86, but now I know it was more of a sightseeing thing than to get from point A to point B.

I read that during Expo they either had to raise the price of it, or start charging for it period, because people wouldn’t get off…

La Ronde’s monorail was/is a yellow one. The yellow ones were doing smaller circuits, usually confined to an island. The blue ones were doing île Ste-Hélène and île Notre-Dame (the famous one that used to go through the US pavillion was a blue one). There was also another system, the Expo Express (more like the metro actually) that was doing all 4 major sites and that one was free.

I will be there  I’ll probably be sculking in a corner trying to remain incognito, but I doubt that’ll last for long if matt has anything to do with it.

So many people going … I may have to change my plans and show up…

Ok, so is this actually finalized yet? If so I’m booking my hotel now rather than at the last minute.
