Dopers on Jeopardy! THE List

If you’re still taking entries to the list, I was a one-day champion on Jeopardy! in 2002. Won $22,000. I can provide confirmation if needed.

No, there is a section of the studio audience just for the waiting contestants. I watched the games for “Monday” and “Tuesday” before they called my name for the Wednesday game. There’s also a separate section for family of the contestants, but we had to ignore our loved ones. :grinning:

I believe it’s only during tournaments that contestants are isolated.

MrAtoz:

Well played.

Nice tie.

Thank you both!

We had a viewing party at the library. It was fun to watch the show with other people, and see them reacting to the ups and downs of the game.

Watched in on DVR this morning!

We’ll see you again tonight! Great job, especially in the Rock n’ Roll category. I always ace those. You’re a Hero! It will be fun to see how far you go.

Question: Is Alex an asshole in real life?

I didn’t find him to be so. He talks to the audience and answers questions during the commercial breaks. In that environment, he has a pretty good, self-deprecating sense of humor. But then, he’s never really rubbed me the wrong way, as he seems to do some people, even when I was just watching him on TV.

Good to hear.

Just watched Game 2. Wow. Bravo.

Can I get a handout?

Nice Job!

Way to go! Another excellent game!

Okay, at first glance this looked like, “Can I get a hand job? :D”

Agreed, although, and I hate to say it, I think your necktie game took a step down from your first show. I figure you’re just resting your starters before the big Friday game.

Sorry about that. I don’t remember what I wore for game 3, but hopefully I will redeem myself!

Just so you know, somebody on the internet said, about my first day’s outfit, “Go back to Men’s Wearhouse with that red shirt and red tie combo!” The internet is so kind and supportive!

Edited to add: The internet folks were also kind enough to point out that I mispronounced “Mackinac.” Sorry, Michiganders!

You are now a Facebook meme. At least, among the quilters.

Good games!

Yeah, I may never live that down.

As I mentioned, we had a viewing party for the first game. Almost everyone there, including my wife sitting next to me, were shouting “Quilting!” while I just stared blankly at the board.

Is it pronounced like “mackinaw”? I’ve never been entirely sure why it’s spelled the way it is, or I thought maybe “mackinaw” was the straight and “mackinack” was the bridge, or something.

Yes, it’s supposed to be “Mackinaw.” I had thought the way you did–that there were two different pronunciations for different things. What I was (mis)remembering, I think, is that there are two different spellings. Some things are spelled Mackinac, some are spelled Mackinaw. But it seems that no matter the spelling, all of them are pronounced with the -aw sound.

I await correction from indignant Michiganders.

When I was playing along at home, I said “what is Mackinaw?”, then when you got credit for “Mackinack” I thought I was wrong.

If Alex says you’re right, and your score goes up, you done good.

Looks I have a reason to catch up on Jeopardy DVR recordings.
