Dopers on Jeopardy! THE List

Frankly, I liked today’s shirt and tie combo!!!

The controversy continues. The Detroit Free Press has taken me to task for my pronunciation!

Agreed. Like I said, smart move to save the best for Friday and end the week on a sartorial high note.

As I recall, Jeopardy has been pretty tolerant of understandable mispronunciations. If you pronounce a word as it’s spelled, even if that’s wrong, they’ll consider it a correct response. That’s handy if you’ve seen a word in print, but never heard anyone say it.

Kinda surprised no one got Mozart tonight.

I was too. No Amadeus fans, I guess.

Man, I can’t believe the three of y’all didn’t figure out the theme of ‘Book of the Month’.

Yeah, that was embarrassing. I don’t think any of us caught on until after it was over. If I’d figured that out, I could have figured out “Octobers” for Mickey Mantle’s book about the World Series, and I definitely wouldn’t have made that stupid guess of “Eve” for the Patricia Highsmith book. I think that was a winnable game for me if a couple of things had gone differently, but Suzanne was a good player.

Thanks to everybody who watched. I hope that you enjoyed it.

[meekly raises hand]Uh…yeah…that was really weak. ha ha. What was the theme?

All the correct responses were the names of months. March, August, Octobers, June, and January. As I said, it was only during the first commercial break, after the category was over, that we figured it out. Often Alex will explain gimmick categories like that, but this one he didn’t. It would have made a difference to me.

I was just discussing this with a few people at work, who had watched the show last night. None of them had gotten it either, and didn’t until I told them.

Don’t these people have anything better to do? What next - death threats from the Youpers? I’ll send them a list of Wisconsin names and Arizona names, let’s see how well they do. Here’s a good starter: “Mogollon”. Have at it, “Dee-troit.”

PS, What kind of librarian are you? Asking for a friend (my wife, the librarian).

When I was trying to recreate the category from memory, all I came up with were “Octobers” and “Joy Luck Club” (which obviously was from a different category, so that didnt help matters.)

Oh…Book of the MONTH Club. :smack:

Congratulations again MrAtoz! We were rooting for you up here in Canada, even though you played against one of ours. What a fun ride to follow a doper on Jeopardy!.

I’m a serials cataloger. Your wife will probably know what that means!

To balance out the Detroit Free Press piece, there was also a little article in Golf Digest celebrating the fact that all three of us knew The Masters.

Are you 3,2,2,1? Sirsi? (I have no idea…)

Sorry for the delay in updating the list. I’ve just moved to the Atlanta area from Las Vegas. (Bye, Snowboarder Bo, sorry we never connected face-to-face.)

Reviving this thread because I thought it would probably be the best way to reach the largest number of former Jeopardy Contestants here on the SDMB.

As you probably know, one of the announced guest hosts for the show is Dr. Mehmet Oz, noted quack and pusher of fake cures and pseudo-science. He is clearly antithetical to everything Jeopardy stands for, and his appearance on the show would be a travesty.

Someone on the Jeopardy Contestants Facebook group has created a petition to oppose Oz’s stint as guest host. It is available here. I urge all former contestants to sign it ASAP. Apparently, they havent started taping his shows yet; a strong enough response might keep them from starting.

This petition is intended only for former contestants, and I haven’t checked to see if there are others for the general public, although I wouldn’t be surprised. If anyone finds one, post here so everyone can sign that one.

I was wrong about them not having taped his shows. It seems that they have, dammit.

That doesn’t mean we have to watch them.

I don’t plan to.

I’m bumping this thread again because it’s been more than three and a half years since I added anyone to the list (MrAtoZ in August 2018), and I wanted to see if any Dopers have been on Jeopardy in that time.

Anyone?

I tested and qualified to be on the show in the early Nineties but never got the call. The production staff warned us they had too many lawyers already.
