Sometimes, while browsing the SDMB archives, I’m drawn by morbid curiosity to the posters with “BANNED” under their username, and click on the “Search” button to read how they met their untimely end. Indeed, some of the blow-ups / meltdowns / Lynn Bodoni axe-droppings are quite entertaining.
However, I’ve run across a goodly number of posters whose last several posts seem to be completely normal. No moderator warnings, no obvious trollish activity. And I don’t necessarily mean the short-term posters who only made 90 posts in the span of a month or two (which, I guess, were determined to be sock puppets when “the powers that be” match up their IP’s with someone else) – I’m talking about long-termers with post counts in the 2000+ range, with a length of activity that spans years.
Why would someone like that get unexpectedly banned?? I’d name specific names, but I don’t think that’s allowed in this forum…at least, I have the feeling it’s not.
Ice Wolf - ok, but I read that as not asking about specific users, whereas I’m curious about quite a few who seemingly got banned for “no reason”, at least from the outside. Long-timers, no less.
I dunno, maybe it’s a mistake to bring this subject up in the first place…I’ve been known to do that from time to time, sorry.
KGS, they just prefer to keep discussion about bannings off-board, is all. Threads like this run the risk of attracting more trouble than they’re worth. I’d suggest you email them to request a shut-down of this thread.
Point taken. Ok, my next question is…which moderator(s) should I email? (About the banned posters that is…I assume to lockdown this thread, it would be the mods of ATMB.) Should it be a mass-mail to all of them, or particular ones? Remember, I’m asking about posters who got banned with NO moderator warnings, so it’s not like I can go that particular route…
I’d definitely send an email to TubaDiva, and perhaps pick two or three other names of moderators/admins on the board for coverage, as each one is not online 24/7.
