“I sorta kinda wouldn’t be unhappy if that person dropped dead” isn’t really what I’m getting at, since I think that’s the type of thought that pretty much every human has at some point. What I’m really trying to get at is actual desire to personally kill through violence, due to some sort of deep-seated negative feeling, which may or may not be unconscious. And of course it’s impossible to be certain about this kind of thing through text on the internet, but I think it’s interesting to talk about and explore.
It’s a reminder to me to make more informative thread links
Bolding mine.
I want to ask, why do you think this? As I, quite gently, disagree. We have rules for those lists. We can not pick minors. And we may not actually do anything in order to gain points. Many of us, knowing it is just a joke, pick people we like or respect, someone whose name should be remembered. Some of the nicest folks on this board play the game.
I like how no one had Lyndon LaRouche on their death pool list and someone figured out he passed 1 to 2 days before anyone in the media caught wind of it because they happened to be looking at his wiki entry. I don’t care how little profit he was worth, he would’ve been on mine if I played. I’m not interested in playing. Homey don’t play that.
You don’t have to. It’s inherent in longing to kill or fantasizing about killing, certain groups of strangers, as the thread title says.
Personally I’m well aware that often the loudest anti gun voices come from those who have one sitting under their bed.
Pretty common thing for people to think personal freedoms ard only ok for themselves.
I don’t want to abolish gun ownership. I would be in favor of more gun control. I like my guns, but I also recognize that our society seems to have some…issues with certain “personal freedoms.” So it’s something that requires more of a hard look than just “DON’T TAKE MUH GUNS”.
So, how am I “thinking that personal freedoms are only ok” for myself?
Intended more as a general statement, sorry, I didn’t remember that it wouldn’t chain the quote you quoted as well.
I suspect a large number of liberals who are very loud about gun control, even bans are themselves owners who couldn’t buy the ones they have if the laws they support were in force…just a common thing in America.
Hey if someone wants to waste their 13 on people that won’t die so be it. More points for us. (Says the guy with zero points)
To the OP, I’ve seen at least a half dozen posts here in as many days fantasizing about the genocide of either the right, the left, or some.portion thereof. Probably nearing triple digits of posts that fantasize about violence towards Trump.
Not in a , if there was a civil war , hypothetical either.
Also i count at least eight agreeing with or suggesting killing anti-vaxxers in just the first couple pages of that pit thread.
My God man you’ve cracked it! Brilliant! All those lying libtards with AK-47s under their pillows shouting for gun control. How did you find out? Awesome detective work, just awesome. You can be expecting your Nobel prize the same day Donny Asswipe gets his.
I’ve just seen it personally enough times. Plus the numbers make it Impossible not to be the case.
It’s not really a phenomenon that’s limited to any particular party or subject either.
Ought basically be common sense, ask someone if they should be allowed to do something, then ask if everyone else should and you’ll usually get two different answers
Or possibly, you’re making some assumptions that if someone is liberal, they must want guns to be thoroughly banned, and therefore if they own a gun, they must be a hypocrite.
That’s the usual assumption. I’ve gone from being a conservative christian NRA member republican in my youth to being very liberal. I still own my guns, I’m not giving them up and I’m not in favor of registration. But the amendment says ‘well regulated’ and it seems to me that the first duty of a militia is to exclude the insane, the incompetent and the criminal. We take away gun rights from one of those groups (felons) but we get the vapors talking about keeping them from the mentally ill and the mentally incompetent.
Anyone who fantasizes about civil war or violent revolution in America is not and never was a patriot. Either of those things would spell the END of the USA as not just as Superpower, but the end of our economy and way of life. You win a struggling, heavily damaged nation that will spend a century crawling out of its own ashes and hand the entire world over to China as the new dominant superpower. Fuck you (generic you) and the treasonous horse you rode in on.
Not all these things are the same though.
In some cases people are just expressing how much they hate a person. And even if they are wishing death on someone there’s a big difference between that and actually suggesting you’d murder someone yourself.
I think it’s a given that anyone on the American Right wants to kill most of humanity, whether they are willing to admit it or not. Anyone who isn’t American, white, Christian, straight, or rightwing to begin with. After killing all of those, they’d they’d find new subdivisions of people to condemn to death.
You mean like the pro-gun people who suddenly become fans of gun control when it’s black people or left wingers who have guns?
Yeah, this is pretty bizarre, even for Sir Galahad over there.
Well, it’s only February.
Blood lust? Not at all. I would just like to see our justice system work and have those that have committed crimes answer for them.
I don’t care if your living under a bridge or the President. The law applies to all of us. If that breaks down, all we are going to have is criminals trying to get elected to avoid punishment.
Exactly
