So I’ll get ya a real medal! But you gotta wait till picnic time for it!

Q

I will GLADLY trade Heineken for some home-grown avacados!

One suggestion. Might be a good idea to check out the park rules. Sometimes they’re picky about things like banners, balloons etc.

NinetyWt I’m planning on coming up on Saturday so I’ll bring brats and beer. Heck, I can start em marinating before I leave and just have em in a cooler. They’d be fine. It’d be great if I could boil the brats in beer with some peppers and onions for a while then finish em off on the grill but I don’t think we’ll have the wheretofores to get em to boil. Charcoal grills ain’t the best for that. They are sooooooooooooooo day-umn good that way though!

And that’s ok about Big Papa. Doubt he’d be innerested anyways. I can’t wait to meet y’all (and everybody)!

WOOHOO!!!

If Archergal brings her new Coleman stove, you can boil them first! I’ll be sure to bring a pot you can use. Or, alternatively, if NinetyWt has a stove in her cabin, you could do it there!

I always say, “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission,” so bring 'em. We’ll put 'em up, and if Mr. Ranger doesn’t like 'em, we’ll take 'em down!

The wife and I just returned from a fabulous afternoon at Red Top Mountain State Park (after a morning of making 7mm holes in a paper target, but I digress). Shelter #7 is DA BOMB! It is on it’s own little island, well, almost an island. You drive to it. We scoped #6 very well, no power there at all. The LARGE party at #7 brought a generator, which tells me they don’t have power, either. There are a few extra picnic tables scattered about the “island”, but if we are sufficiently obnoxious we may keep “the others” away. Batteries for boom boxes and gas cookers for boiled peanuts!

The cabins do rock as well. We’ll be in the Yurt, which is in the camping area behind security, so I guess the Saturday party will be at NinetyWt’s!

We have a small tabletop gas grill we’ll bring, plus a camp stove for any smaller cooking projects.

Shelter 7?

Da Bomb?

Okay, with UncleBill’s permission, Shelter 7 will heretofore be known as “Da Bomb Shelter” for DopeStock '04.

Thanks for the recon, Marine, but let’s remember if we become too obnoxious, that little bit of land is gonna be mighty tough to defend! We may have to become amphibious!

Glad you and Geobabe are “yurtin’” it with us that weekend! It will be nice to see y’all (and the others) again.

Speaking of the others (who were at the GeoBill’s housewarming), sure would be nice if they were there as well if possible. Maybe they aren’t monitoring this thread?

Looks like we’re all getting “squared away” (as it were)! Don’t forget to e-mail Torie with your food/drink contributions, thanks!

“We are stardust, we are golden…”

Q

hahahahahahahaha!!! I LOVE it! Da Bomb Shelter

I have invited a very special guest to join us for our picnic and have sent him this thread to monitor.

I hope he will be able to make it and let us know his intentions by posting here.

He is not a “celebrity”, but he is one of our own.

Here’s hoping…

Quasi

Even though I won’t be on the boards as much for personal reasons, I will still be folowing this. You can still all count on me to be there!

Your “Captain Kirk” very much hopes to see you at Red Top, my dear!

As a matter of fact, we could not do this without you, Miss. Torie

You are expected and very much liked, sweet torie! Come on down and get some hugs from me and the rest of the Southeast/Georgia Dopers!

Thanks

Quasi

“Special Guest” send his regrets, but he won’t be able to make it.

Torie, I hope you get everything “fixed” okay. If you need to talk, you know my number.

Q

I am so very sorry to report that I will not be able to attend the picnic…I am so very sorry…was looking forward to meeting all you fine people…maybe another time. :frowning:

I hope the weather is beautiful and each and everyone of you have a fabulous time.

Torie, I am thinking of you and wishing you well!

Try not to give Quasi a hard time…

Until another time!

While we were camping up at Red Top this past weekend (Our tent doesn’t leak! Whoohoo!), we took a stroll by the marina and looked at the party boats, thinking we’d run the idea by y’all of renting a party boat, either Saturday for those who will be around that day, or early Sunday. Here are a few pics of the boats they have there, and we picked up a paper with ads for a few other local marinas, which we’ll check out to see if their rates are any better. The rates for those are: $50/hour, $119/half day (any four hours) and $199/full day (10 AM-5:30 PM). Anybody interested?

I like the boat idea.

That’s not very much a person at all.

Oh! I forgot to add, if you’re asked for a password to view the pics, use geoguest.

So where’s the new revised DopeStock list? Who’s all going?

If any of you are coming from Florida, please consider teaming up in the Red Mountain Convoy.

The boat idea sounds good to me too. Who’s gonna drive it, UncleBill?

Also I’m not a 100% sure about the consuming of spirits on the boat. Is it just for the “captain” that it’s prohibited for, or everyone?

Count me in as a crew member!

Q

Although “intoxicants” are verboten in the park itself, normal rules for boating are that the skipper is not drinking, and noone drunkenly interferes with his/her actions. Since I don’t drink, and grew up boating, I will certainly volunteer my services unless someone has more recent boating qualifications than I.

The brochure and website say nothing about booze, merely no pets or grills.

Since we don’t yet know how many of us will be there, it might be a bit early to ask this, but how many people do these boats hold, in case the whole lot of want to go on a ride around the lake.

Or do 'all just wanna “play it by ear?” (Damn! I hate that phrase! :() and see which ones of us wanna get on the water and which ones will stay on land?

Also can we rent as late as the day of the event, or do we have to reserve in advance?

Thanks
