I recently committed a double post. I’ve seen that others do it and always thought “what a bonehead”.
And then I did too.
And I don’t know how.
What did I do wrong?
Did you click on “Submit Reply” twice, thinking the first time didn’t go through?
Of course, it could just be Herman th’ Hamster playing with your mind … 
Found an earlier thread from last year, it might have some info for you, Anaxagoras.
After you’ve submitted a post, if you see any sort of “reply”, then it was posted and there’s no need to re-submit.
If you get a “Gateway timed out” or “Website not responding” message, I have no clue. Sometimes, the post has gone through, and hitting SUBMIT again is the cause of double-post. But other times, frankly, the post doesn’t go through.
So I dunno.
I’ve done it once. My submission was taking ages with the Internet Explorer icon spinning. While it was doing so, I noticed a couple of typos and stopped the web page using the IE toolbar. I corrected the typos and resubmitted, only to find that the first one had made it after all.
Once you’ve hit “Submit Reply”, that’s it, really. With only a few exceptions, your words of wisdom are on their way to posterity. Or your detailed description of Uncle Moe’s toe jam. It all depends where you are at the time.
Stopping the browser while waiting for the “Thank you for your post” screen to come up won’t make any difference.
And if you do double post, no need to follow with a third pointing out that the double was unintended. We have all seen it happen, it has happened to us, we know you didn’t mean to do it.
Plus, if you don’t say anything about it, a Mod looking in who has spare time (hah!) could delete the duplicate, out of the goodness of her/his heart…

I design software for a living, and I know that sometimes sh-t just happens. This appears to be one of those cases.
There’s also the rare Triple Post. I’ve only seen one of them myself, in a Song Lyric Game last summer, before I was registered.
Triple posts rare? I’ve seen entire threads duplicated six or seven times. Back when I was a moderator, to boot, and I was the one who had to do the cleanup.
Well, I’ve never…maybe once…or twice…Okay, I used to have one hell of a problem with this. Learning that once you hit the Submit Reply button it is posted not only has proven correct, but I haven’t had a double post, since.

I do have a related question. You hit Submit Reply and it sits there doing nothing. What is the best way to get back to the forum, since I’ve never gotten a response from “click here”?
The back button should work.
