Okay, I know that this is somewhat taboo. However, I’m a big fan of Steven Pinker’s work and of cognitive psychology in general - and one thing i like about Pinker is that he is considerably more willing to reveal societal taboos on sex than other psychologists are.
If so many people look at porn, then why are so many of the same people shocked at goatse or lemonparty?
While the pictures may be unattractive - it seems as if a lot of people still react to those images in a state of gaping horror (as I’ve seen on numerous forums). Which is surprising - since none of those pictures are anything new.
Because people probably look at porn to see attractive people having sex.
For me, I want to watch some hot chicks making out. Not some guy spraying shit all over himself. I dont think there is a double standard.
I’m not really sure what parallel you’re trying to draw here. Porn is intended for erotic stimulation. Of course, depending on the person being stimulated this can cover a wide, wide range of types of images.
The two images you reference are pretty much intended to be digusting to the sensibilities of most people. So why are you having trouble reconciling the fact that most people react unfavorably to those images, yet favorably to other images that are supposed to stimulate them?
Are you trying to say that there is social pressure to find some things sexually appealing and other things taboo? Well, yeah. There is. Not quite sure that is a double-standard. Just social pressure to conform. Which exists in pretty much every aspect of life.
There is a normative sexuality, it’s not just a matter of social programming, but a biological symbiosis of organs and their function. If you put a penis in a vagina and ejaculate on the correct day of the month you will likely produce an offspring. This act is pleasurable and hormones stimulate our nervous system causing our attention to be guided in a certain direction. Obviously porn is symbolic imagery designed to elicit a certain response, and that is purely cognitive, but what turns most people on is symbolic references to normal sexual activity. There is some broadening of that range to include sensual stimulus like homoerotica or oral sex. What comes out of our asses is filth, that is specifically toxic to our systems, so we want to expel it and get it away from us, most of society’s efforts have been based around removing the filth as far from us as we possibly can as soon as it leaves our asshole. It is not hypocritical to be revolted by pictures of a man bathing in it. The normal version of sex is procreative, it is generative, it breeds life. The inverted sexuality of bathing in offal celebrates disease causing filth, as very few things in this world have made as many people sick as human excrement.
Seems people are mixing up their shock&awe and gore porn.

lemonparty is a trio of older gentlemen having some fun.
tubgirl is a masked lady playing in a fountain.
goatse is some guy doing some stretches.
highway is a young lass who seems to have lost her shoe.
motorcycle is a lad showing off his cthulhu impression.
I suppose there are people out there that are turned on by some or all of these images, but it’s not something most of us would think of in our nightmares, much less fantasies, much less realize physically, much much less think it was a great opportunity to take a couple candid shots to share with friends.
There’s some seriously weird shit out there from BMEzine, though there are quite clearly groups of common thinking people that value the changes. Goatse is pretty obviously in keeping with any number of rosebud pictures. Tubgirl plays to the degradation fetish and coprophilia crowd. Lemonparty might bring back fond memories if you’re an older gay man.
The other two aren’t intended to be porn and a re-purposed ER/evidence/crime scene photos. motorcycle gets around because the subject is looking directly into the camera (with one eye, anyway) and appears to be aware despite his injuries… it doesn’t have any obvious porn value. highway is a half-naked chick… or a half naked-chick, depending on how you want to stress it. Overlook the missing bits and it’s still fundamentally a T&A pic. It may go above and beyond simple T&A but I honestly couldn’t tell.
I can only speak for myself but no double standard here. I don’t like goatse but then I don’t like like mainstream porn much either. Ya know the ones with the plastistic tits and stare into the camera that says they are not into this at all. Now that’s obscene.
But I don’t judge other people if they like something else. To each his own.
Speaking of wich, mswas lay off the “normative sexuality” thing. Been looking for it, never found it. Taking it up the ass is not the the same thing as scat, doesn’t have to be dirty. Sex dosen’t have to be reprodutive. Part of the beauty of being human.
It’s like the difference between the pleasure of watching two well-aged steaks on the grill, or a maggot infested rotting corpse in the field. Both are examples of dead chunks of meat, but I think the difference is pretty obvious.

That said - could it be possible that homosexuals are less likely to be repulsed by goatse and lemonparty? Could some of them even find goatse and lemonparty arousing?
Sorry, I didn’t invent biology. I have both given and taken it up the ass, but that doesn’t change how I view the biological functions of those organs.
