Doukhobors and education

I’ve been reading a bit about Doukhobors, especially the ones that moved to Saskatchewan about the beginning of the 20th century. They had some unusual beliefs. Some of them did not believe in education. This created some conflict with the authorities when they wouldn’t send their kids to public school and apparently didn’t build their own schools. Some did build schools (Doukhobors fractured into about three divisions), but the ones that didn’t believe in it sometimes set those schools on fire in protest. (They usually went naked to these acts of protest, but that’s beside the point here.)

Anyway, did the group that didn’t believe in schools, called the Sons of Freedom by the press, believe in any kind of education? Home schooling or something? Or did they expect everyone to become illiterate and innumerate?
