Dr. Demento

I found a tape I recorded off of KMET of the Dr. Demento Show. They mention 1981 several times, but the label on the tape says Mars [something] 1982. Anyway, it’s been a long time since I’ve listended to Dr. D and I thought I’d look on the Internet to find out what stations he’s played on. I went to the official website, and there’s a statement saying that he’s not allowed to tell people the stations that carry the show.

So how do I find out if the show is played in this area?

Go to this site – http://php.indiana.edu/~jbmorris/ – and click on “stations list” under “Popular Pages.”

Alas, only one station in Washington broadcasts it and it’s too far south to receive. :frowning:

I saw that a while back, too. Can anybody explain WHY?

Wag: Many of the songs are offensive to somebody. Maybe they don’t want a central data base listing all the stations to harase when pissed off. Play “Dead Puppies” and PETA pickets or paints the building with blood. Play “The Homecoming Queen Has a Gun” and parents groups picket you for a month.

Look on that page under the webcasts…there are quite a few stations that have internet broadcasting that carry the show.

Jaysus. Don’t these folks realise there’s a tuning control or an off setting?

The song is also a blatant lie – dead puppies ARE a lot of fun!

I’m positively all for his show’s format. I own 3 cds and 2 tapes from this guy. I’m going to go play The Butcher of the Town by Da Yoopers.

Nope. It’s the same as the people who complain about Howard Stern and “raunchy” TV shows. They have no concept of the fact that TVs and Radios have OFF buttons and that you have to take some personal responsibility for what you and your family watch/listen to in your home.

Unfortunately, there weren’t any SHOUTcast streams found containing the term demento.

Too bad. That’d be a good way for this guy to air to a larger audience.

before this thread completely changes to a GD, let me remind you that most of these pissed off people have the feeling that everybody needs to think the way they do. Sure, THEY don’t think that singing fsongs about Dead Puppies, or my personal favorite - I Want to Fry Up An Eagle by Tim Cavanagh, are funny, but they also don’t think that anyone ELSE is allowed to find them funny.

On a related note, Dr Demento is putting together a charity CD for a Katrina fund. Weird Al decided to contribute Happy Birthday to it - a song about mass death. Doesn’t this seem just a LITTLE bit inappropiate?

All I know is that he’s one of Bart Simpson’s two mortal enemies.

For Weird Al? No. For Dr. Demento? No.

For serious Dr. Demento fans? No.

To the general public? Probably.

Hit reply too soon again…

Then again, the general public rarely “gets” Dr. Demento anyway. If they did, he would be on a hell of a lot more stations than he is. Putting “Happy Birthday” on a Katrina charity CD is the kind of thing that Dementoids and Dementites will grok with nary a frown, and the general public will be up in arms about, I’m sure.

This is weird. I just yesterday found an old tape of Frank Zappa songs. I remember how much trouble I had getting used to the uncensored version of “T*****s and Beers.”

Oh GREAT!!
Now I’ve got:
“I’m looking over
My dead dog Rover
that I hit with a power mower”

STUCK IN MY HEAD!

make it stop…make it stoooopppp!

Sure they do but they listen anyway so they’ll have something to complain about. Howard Stern’s most loyal listeners are ones who don’t like him. They want to hear what he says next so they can complain about it.

My connection is too slow for webcasts.

Doctor Demento interviewed Zappa on the air in 1981, and halfway through the interview he mentioned the song “Beepies And Beer, as we have to say it here on the radio.” Throughout the rest of the interview, Zappa kept ribbing Dr. D. about “beeping” records.
