I’ve never even heard of this lady…is she on the radio up north?..I do recall something about “Dr. Laura’s Pictures”, but didn’t really know who she was. Sounds like I’m better off that way.

A douche bag is at least utilitarian. Dr. Laura is just a cheap opportunist who imposes her ravenous ego on the hurting and vulnerable. (And gullible.)
The despicable Dr. Laura is entirely unqualified to practice any sort of mental health or counseling function. She was a caller to a talk show (natch) who impressed the DJ w/ her fast mouth and opinions. Thus was born an instant media celebrity.
Her total lack of medical credentials offends me–though not as much as the pure greed and cynicism of the ratings-mad radio twerps who have “legitimized” her. She’s an obscene mixture of personal hubris and corporate greed, feeding on the weak and the susceptible.
I am offended by her arrogant assumption of qualifications, learning and responsilbility. Not content w/ ignoring small things like actual medical qualifications, she has now moved into the religious realm. According to her, she is not basing her “advice” on newly discovered wisdom from her Jewish heritage. Double whammy, anyone?
I have only a layman’s understanding, but only a surface knowlege of Jewish religion and some friends in rabbinical study lead me to believe that a lot more is involved than platitudes, ego, hostility, attitude and greed. She is an offense to the medical and religious traditions she has hijacked for her own aggrandizment.
Are you aware that “Dr. Laura” called for pickets and demonstrations in front schools and libraries that offer unfiltered Internet access a few weeks ago? Any agency that provides Internet access w/o filters–that don’t WORK in multi-user settings–had to brace for pickets and press on the sidewalks?
The good news is—nuthin’ happened. The Sanctimonious Ego doesn’t have the credibility or clout she pretends to. But that does not excuse her from the casual, arrogant, unthinking and immoral damage she tries to inflict, all in benefit of her own bottomless ego.

I really think you are all being just a bunch of meany heads! Doc Laura loves us! She tells us not only that we are stupid but WHY we’re stupid. She makes us take a hard look at our love lives because her’s is so perfect! I’m telling you, she does a great service for all the clueless multitudes of women who allow her the right to dictate to them.

What’s saddest about this is, at least some (if not many) real-life one-on-one long-term therapists are just like her.

One of my friends characterized her as the sort of person who if she weren’t a Jewish woman would be denying the Holocaust and telling women to stay in the kitchen.
Even worse than Dr. Laura’s stuff on that site are the people in the message boards. I can’t believe the opinions some of those people hold!
I can’t believe that no one has brought up her lawsuit against a surf/skate shop for selling “hardcore pronography” to minors. The hardcore porno in question is Big Brother magazine which is published by LFP (Larry Flynt Publishing). Flynt has been…less than kind to her in the past (and the rest of us by publishing those nudes of her) and she’s attempting to strike back at him through this lawsuit. The skate shop owner is countersuing for defamation. I don’t know if any of you are familiar with Big Brother- its a fairly raunchy skateboard mag that, since being bought by LFP, has actually cleaned up their act by NOT publishing nudity without blocking it out with smileys (since they started doing that I really haven’t read it…). She’s since countersued him for defamation for calling her a liar.

Precisely. People like Dr. Laura and Rush Limbaugh have the sacred right to air their views. Likewise, we have the sacred right to call them bigoted douche bags, etc.
Mojo - true. No one here has said she can’t air her views. I guess I should have been clearer in my post. The discussions on this board, for the most part, have demostrated some class and intelligence. Simply to call Dr. Laura a douche bag is like a playground fight.

I think Pres. Clinton is scumbag. But I would add more to the public debate if I said why I think Clinton is scumbag. Others have done that but the orginal post by Satan just didn’t measure up to the caliber of the stuff I have come to enjoy here. I love a good healthy fuck you now and then but if that’s all we’re going to do here, then IMHO, it’s a waste of time.

First of all, shit nose, the FCC decided that TV and radio are NOT covered by the free speech provisions of the 1st Ammendment.
Why don’t you get all Tesla-like, build you own station, and start screaming “Fuck” on the air and see how long you keep broadcasting.
Second part would be the fact that even if the FCC did not have this ruling, Marconi-breath, a radio station has no obligation EXCEPT TO IT’S POCKET BOOK as to what is put on the air. If not for the rules I alluded to above, if you could generate more revenue with your “fuck” serenade than Dr. Judy, guess who “loses” their “freedom of speech” as you miscall it?
Thirdly, the only person of the three you mention - ME! - is the only one who does have free speech (wihin the rules that this website upholds) in your arguments, so I can call Dr. Laura a douche-bag, and you a swollen ballsack all I want.
