Oh and a small coda. You pitted the wrong guy dude. Heh!
Say, what do you suppose this means? Is he threatening the board?
[beavis] Are you threatening me? [/beavis]
I’m pretty sure you did.
If you don’t want answers from the public (all together now), don’t post it on a public fucking message board. The mods have enough shit to do without having to read all the rules to you, and explain them using really small words.
You did ask for it:
Tarantula, behold the powers of the mighty E-MAIL!
WATCH! As your questions are answered by the person who you wish to answer them!
SEE! As the reasoning behind thread closure is explicated for you!
BE AWED! As the cheerful moderator doesn’t rip you to shreds like those on a public message board might!
So…I guess the answer to tarantula’s question is, learn to hack?
Does anyone else think that Tarantula needs to lie down for a few minutes with a cool cloth over his eyes?
Wait a sec, QED can’t be king as long as I am queen!
You can read locked threads.
But if you hit a locked thread in just the right spot with a hammer, you can post to itagain. Does any one here know how to do that? Or should I do a search on getafuckingclue.com
You offered no valid reason why you might need to pick a lock, just that you needed advice picking a lock. You leave us with the cocnclusion that your intentions are less then benign.
Also, you are a fucking idiot for likening a person locking a thread for dubious legal reasons to a organization that systematically exterminated millions of people. As mentioned before, grow up.
Good GOD, you’re a dumbass. They don’t want people posting “how tos” on possibly illegal activities, because if someone DOES use the info, the Chicago Reader could get sued, and we wouldn’t have the SDMB anymore.
that wouldn’t matter, I suspect, if you refer to the registration agreement linked by Dr.Matrix, it doesn’t say “unless you’ve got a really, really, really good reason to”
Oops. :smack:
You’re always wringing on people’s parades.
it’s my nature.
Okay, Tarantula. Suppose that we assume you have a real problem in that your own bicycle, purchased with your own money, is locked, and you for whatever reason have absolutely no way of causing that lock to unlock (lost and forgot the combination, only key is missing or broken off in the keysocket, etc.). Good enough; you’re honest and law-abiding.
And if the answer to your question is posted on open board, it provides the jerk down the street, who knows just who you are and has no morals, and who has been lurking on this board for months in hopes of ripping you off for something, with precisely how to steal your bike.
That’s why threads like that are closed.
I’m doing work for a former boss as a subconsultant. Let’s suppose that he has access to a few megabytes of online storage somewhere, and wants me to set up a place where he, our clients, and I can upload and download files we need, using one of the file-sharing programs out on the market.
Not knowing how to go about this, I post a GQ asking for advice.
Now, about half the mods. have interacted with me on e-mail and know me as a good-intentioned person. I’ve sat and shared a beverage with Uncle Beer at a Dopefest, and have met one or two others in person. They have absolutely no reason to doubt my bona fides, and my OP makes it 100% clear that I’m not engaged in anything illicit.
Know what will happen to that thread?
They’ll close it. And probably send me a nastygram about it.
Because the techniques I’d use in making those files publicly available for file-sharing are just what people would use in stealing MP3s and illegally trading them.
It’s not about you. Or me, either. It’s about whether the answer to the question could be reasonably used for illegal purposes. And in your case, and mine, it definitely could.
*While I’m here, I want to compliment my fellow Dopers for restraint, though. With an OP like this one, not one person (until now) has dared to use the word “felch”! *
Until right there. Oh, well, that’s that word taken care of …
Tarantula, quit being a gormless hot-headed twit, coming across to all and sundry just like a kid having a tantrum (“Waaah!!! I didn’t get to have my thread live!!! Bad moddy!!! Waaahhhh!!!”), and just bloody well move on, won’t you? You’re wastin’ valuable space, here.
And yes – if you know of other sites that help you find out how to pick locks, then use 'em. Otherwise, it would appear you only wanted the sodding attention.
Greaaaaat… we were going for a record.
