Dr. Who Episode 2 - "The End of the World" (spoilers)

When I say “die hard” I basically mean “mental”. The sort of chaps who dress as cybermen and sea devils and have a bit of a thing for The Master. It is a primarily gay subculture.

Go and have a look on some of the newsgroups etc - you’ll soon see what I mean.

REALLY! I have seen one gay fansite for fans of the programme, and no discussion of gay related matters on the newsgroups I lurk on. I see steadfast refusal to admit that the Doctor might be a sexual being, seeing as how he is a grandfather, and presumably, a father. (which I always explained by the fact that, as hazel-rah has proposed maybe he’s not attracted to members of other species besides his own.) I have also seen spirited discussion of how many UNIT members were gay, but that’s it. I so none of the overt gayness that owlstretchingtime seems to be talking about. It’s important to keep in mind that I am on the look for homosexuality in everything, seeing as how public visibility is a good thing, and I am a huge fan of fanfiction documenting romances between (non-Doctor Who related) males, such as in many anime series, and Harry Potter.

Sorry for the hijack, but where’s the homosexuality in Harry Potter? I\must have blinked and missed it. I thought Hermione and Ron had a love/hate thing going and Harry has a girlfriend in at least one of the books (can’t remember which, as I’m not a great fan). Unless perhaps Malfoy (sp.?) has a secret crush on Harry.

Anyway, we seem to have got off the subject. I’m looking forward to Ep.3 even though I will view with less relish now that I know the Eccleston is leaving after only one series. Not that I think he’s the best Doc ever or anything, but the series has only just been relaunched and the main character quits. Does not bode well for the future. Old fans may like the idea of regeneration, but it may kill it for the new lot. Ho hum. Back into CD and book limbo for another 15 years or so.

Perhaps they ought to just kill him (the Doctor) off permanently and then have a spin off with Billie Piper steering the TARDIS. By the looks of episode 2 it works by bike pump and bright spinning wheels anyway, so even a human ought to be able to operate it.

Are there any threads on what a tosser Eccleston is or should I go to the pit with this?

I recall that there was some device built by Rassilon that kept a Tardis from going into Galifrey’s past. Possibly if The Doctor tried to go back to warn them, he’d be immediately shuffled to the moment when the planet blew up.

What I’m wondering about is the Eye of Harmony. It’s supposed to power the technology of the Tardis. Well, if the planet has blown up, where is the power coming from? Does The Doctor have the Eye in his Tardis, like in the FOX movie?

No need to apologize, it’s all my fault. :)Well, due to improper translation, and names that are used for both girls and boys, it seemed like one of the minor characters was dateing someone of the same sex, but that is besides all but the point of, “blink and missed it.” This was exploited, to great comedic effect in more than one fan fiction story I read.

Well, it was more like Harry had a crush on one of the girls, but indeed, it is not in the books proper. It is instead in fan written fiction proposing the exact scenario you proposed. Sure, Malfoy is not meant to be redeemable, but many fans find the idea of a main character with a main girl to be quite boring, and instead pair up someone with their rival. Here is one example.

A post-Hogwart’s romance between Draco and Harry in muggle London. Includes red mittens, snide comments, cheesy lines, sliding on linoleum, pinching, nipple rings, bosses on sugar-highs, sex-obsessed friends, cooking shows, an author who doesn’t shut up, and much more besides.

Oh, and re: your topic on Rose piloting the TARDIS, someone on slashdot asked "Why can’t the Doctor be regenrated as female?, (there was a rumour that he would be, awhile ago, and he did, in an authorized parody in which he did. Someone there asked the exact same question as you, and the answer was:

The reply to it was as follows:

Nice.

As I recall, they can only travel into the past, not the future. Sure, they have traveled into the future of earth, but that is the past to the timelords. Also, the all purpose paradox preventor is the…, well, let me quote from “The Dangers of Exceeding the Blinovitch Limitation Effect”
