My vague recollection is that he worked for the IRS which is under the Treasury Department and his job involved law enforcement.
I have always pictured him as Agent Oscar Wallace from The Untouchables – a desk jockey who fancies himself a gangster.
I have a vague memory of him stating something along the lines of “as a fed (not enforcement)” or similar at some point, years ago (before I put him on ignore).
He’s over in the Historical Myths thread floating that people agree with him that the joke about the navy ship and the lighthouse could not have happened.
He brought it up, debunking it as an urban legend and a couple of people pointed out that it’s not an urban legend but a joke.
But because someone asked why it was impossible, others explained and he doesn’t get that no one else ever mistook it for being real.
It’s not unusual for a person to be too stupid to realize how much more stupid they are than everyone else.
Pretty sure that’s the core of Dunning-Kruger.
I thought he worked as a guide in a national forest or park.
Maybe with Boyscouts. There used to be paid upper employees with BSofA. I can’t imagine it’s a thing now.
But anywhoo…my Daddy would describe him as having “alittle knowledge, enough to make him dangerous”
I thought it came out that he worked for Social Security.
As I nored above, he’s got some significant journeyman body of arcane knowledge on banking regulations & compliance. Same as my late wife the banking regulation attorney, so I’m sorta positioned to recognize the difference between him and the usual Google-jockey.
I suspect he held some audit, compliance, or related support function at FDIC or OCC.
Heck, he might’ve been the same role as the customer service worker that @Saint_Cad called here: search for relevant thread
Nored?
Nored. Yes, he is that guy. I enjoyed watching him as he helped Butler University almost win the NCAA Championship against Duke in 2010.
Sorry. I was on my phone. That’s supposed to be “noted”
(deleted) neverevermind.
That makes more sense. In my head ‘mentioned’ was the word you were going for, I just couldn’t figure out how that ended up as ‘nored’.
That evidence would suggest that it really hasn’t discouraged the more negative aspects of his personality. ![]()
The Pit is about discouraging bad behavior? That’s news to me. And I imagine to a lot of other posters
Some folks are sensitive to peer pressure. Some are insensitive. Some are oppositional defiant.
My best aphorism for this is
Everyone improves the room. Some by arriving, others by departing.
If the Pit encourages some departures, the remaining room is improved.
And some take the criticism to heart and modify their behavior. There have been a few notable examples.
There is something very wrong with this.
