Drivers; All else being equal, would you prefer a larger car?

Oh, I don’t know. My last two cars sat low to the ground and I keep swearing that my next car is going to be a big old-man’s car. But if I wanted a bigger car, I suppose I would get one. I kinda have my eye on the new Honda CRZ.

I drive a Mercury Grand Marquis. It has every bell and whistle and is fast and smooth as can be. Not to mention, it’s the same blue color as cop cars, and everyone slows down when they see me coming. I just LOVE my car and will be so upset when it gets too old for my husband to maintain any longer. It’s a 1998 and he tells me it has at least 5 more good years in it. I sure hope, because I hear they aren’t being made anymore. :frowning:

A small well designed car is the clear winner for me personally. Given that I have 3 little kids and out-laws making extended visits, then it’s the Honda Odessy

I drive an older Cadillac and a 4x4 pickup truck. So even with ecological and financial penalties I still prefer big. I also have a kit car which is essentially a 1960 VW Beetle with a fiberglass conversion kit to make it look like a 1929 Mercedes. That car is small and underpowered, but a lot of fun to drive on a twisty country road.

I hate tiny econoboxes and cars with no style.

I have a PT Cruiser, and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. Now that they’re no longer made, I hope to keep this one forever. I hate driving big cars.

I’m not so much worried about the size of the car on the outside as the size on the inside. I’m 6’4" and there are many cars into which I cannot comfortably fit. Ironically, some of the smaller cars are more capacious inside, at least in the driver’s seat!

The agility is exactly why I drive an Expedition, handling that’s a magnitude better than a pickup. That thing whips around and zips into parking spaces like you wouldn’t believe.

Gotta love them Expeditions whipipn’ around parking lots and zippin’ into spaces!

You realize of course, an Expedition is nothing but an F250 from the doors forward, right?

Our fleet goes to the extremes. My daily driver is a Kia Soul. It could just about fit into the bed of our Ram 1500 Mega Cab pickup. In reality, it’s a 2500 chassis to accommodate the extra length.

For long-haul driving, I prefer the truck. It’s like driving a comfy living room. But, as soon as it needs to be parked or gassed up, I hate it. It’s huge and the Hemi engine sucks down gas like mad - going downhill with a tailwind, it gets about 13 MPG empty. OTOH, hang a 9000-pound travel trailer off the back end, and it gets 10 MPG.

For my daily drive, the Soul wins as it gets close to 30 MPG and it’s a snap to park it - it fits into the “COMPACTS ONLY” spots and still has room to spare. The back seat is surprisingly large and the “trunk” can hold a goodly amount of stuff.
