That’s surprising. I thought Hillary would make a run at him in NC…
Polls close in IN in 3 minutes. Obama by 3*
*prediction
I thought they still had an hour in Indiana.
Anyhow, Huffington Post has Clinton +5 in Indiana, and Obama +12 in NC. Given the way these early exit polls tend to overestimate Obama, I’ll say Clinton +10 in Indiana, and Obama +7 in NC.
Polls in the area of the state on Central time don’t close for an hour. I doubt they’ll release any results till then.
I’m sure President Kerry will be glad to hear about the exit polls though.
I’ve had the feeling that Clinton wasn’t really going to close the gap in NC - not as much as the latest polls had shown, anyway. We’ll see. I’m expecting her to win Indiana, subjecting us to another month of this stuff at least.
It occurred to me today that in social studies textbooks, this will probably sound like a very interesting couple of months in political history. I wonder how many of us will be willing to admit to our kids and grandkids that we were actually bored silly and couldn’t wait for the damn thing to end.
Drudge is a fan of leaking/releasing news and exit poll results that raise Obama expectations, only to draw back later in the evening. It’s happened a few times now.
That said: NC Obama by 12, Indiana Clin-ton by 10. She will have “beaten” “expectations” once again, and around and around we go…
I know the media likes a good fight, yadda, yadda, but I’m going to be mighty annoyed that the “beats expectations line” is going to take hold for Clinton (I assume) when it was more-or-less ignored when Obama beat expectations in Pennsylvania, where the storyline was “a win is a win.”
Can anyone explain why anything Drudge posts, either way, should be taken seriously, discussed here, or even read? Are you all so desperate for news that you’ll even read fiction?
Of course, if Clinton wins Indiana by 5, and Obama wins NC by 6, that would total 11:
Voila: DOUBLE DIGIT WIN FOR CLINTON!
It is nice to agree with you for once
These are exit polls from the news sources. Drudge didn’t just invent them…
So, why not link to the original news sources instead of Drudge?
I was walking out of a polling place at about 6:00 tonight, when a CNN guy stopped me and asked me if I wanted to do an exit poll. “I voted on Saturday,” I answered; “I just teach here.” They dropped me like a cold potato.
I wonder how NC’s vast early voting will change things? When I voted on Saturday, there was the longest line I have ever seen at a polling place in my state; took me about 20 minutes to cast my vote (usually it takes me about 3). I suspect a lot of folks did the same across the state.
I also ran a quickie poll with my second-graders today; during writing workshop, I passed out slips of paper and let them write their choice of McCain, Obama, or Clinton on it. The results:
John McCain: 1
Hillary Clinton: 2
Barack Obama: 14.
Every time I put another hash mark by Obama’s name, the class broke out in peals of delighted laughter. It was pretty fun. Alas that these kids don’t get to vote for real!

When I was in 5th grade, we had a similar mock election. Ross Perot won decisively, IIRC. So…
CNN is reporting Indiana results (4% of precincts reporting) with Clinton 58% and Obama 42%.
Ding Dong, the witch is…
…not dead!
I think we’re seeing the Limbaugh effect in Indiana. Republicans crossing over to fuck Obama.
Until Marion and Lake county start reporting, I’m not paying too much attention to the early reporting. Indianapolis and Gary (not counting suburbs) have around 15% of the state population between them. No, I don’t think they’ll shift the results by 10% or anything but they’re certainly worth waiting for.
I agree, but the thread is about early reports.
According to 538.com , among those who voted for Hillary, 7% don’t want her to win the nomination. We’ll see if that number holds, but it does seem significant.
